Stop FOMOing. Fear of missing out.

Why are you buying IQ when it’s already up 13% today? Know what’s going to happen - day traders are going to take profit towards EOD and it’ll end the day at +8-10%. And you’ll be down 5%.

Waste a day trade, sell that IQ, and buy in tomorrow or next week. If your consistently losing trades then wait for a dip or consolidation. Momentum trades like these can be tricky... Or if you want to hold it, buy more shares 1 minutes before the market closes to lower your average. Your last option is to hold it and pray, but if you start tomorrow in the red you’re going to be hawking all over it in case it drops. I see them both going up some more in the coming month, especially IQ - you just need to be careful with these type of plays.

Create a set of rules for yourself and follow them 100% of the time.

Edit: looks like it’s still holding gains decently. I would still either buy more right before close (if it’s dropping) or create a mental stop loss.

Well they’re both ending the day pretty strong. Hopefully they keep ripping in the coming weeks.

Profit is profit. Hope I didn’t scare you from it. Revisit it tomorrow and see what price action is like in the morning. This just isn’t the type of play to chase over halfway through the day.

If anyone is willing to answer, I have a question for those who trade a lot and speculate on different stocks. What kind of returns did you get in the last year? I see that SPY would have given you 16.3% in the last year, and that would have taken no effort, so I’m wondering how much people are beating that by with putting time and effort into it. Thanks!

If you want high risk high returns let me recommend fidelity’s Blue Chip Growth fund. YTD is 15% and past 1 year is close to 25%. Expense ratio isn’t that bad.

If you’re new to investing you should be putting this money into an IRA to save yourself some taxable income and to start thinking about the future.

The old adage “time in the market beats timing the market” comes into play with your question. Just keep investing and relax as your investments earn you money if that’s your style.

If you want to learn technical analysis, charting, fundamentals etc then you can make a hell of a lot more than that.

SPY looking to open pretty red. Today may lead into a few day long dip - or today may be the perfect buying opportunity.

I’m just wondering what people’s actual returns are (if they’re willing to share). It was just a general question.

I’m up 20% in the past year on my 401k.
Up 56% in the past year on my long term account (AMZN MU NFLX NVDA V).
Up 500+% on my high risk account. (Mainly options trades but following momentum - this account was used for bio stocks this time last year, then bitcoin stocks towards the end of the year, now its looking like new China IPOs are going to be the hit thing for a little while.)

That’s really good. Now my question is, are you trading often, or did you just pick great stocks?

Right now most of my money is in individual stocks (AAPL, BRKB) looking to add 2-3 more (some of what you have I’ve been watching). I am more less wondering people’s strategy (i.e. buy and hold good companies, timing the small moves, etc).

When it comes to my long term account I just picked great stocks and enjoyed an unprecedented rally as talk of new tax laws and an optimistic President lead the way to gains.

For my risky account - I have some buy and holds. But I’m mainly doing options on blue chip companies and SPY.

Options huh, I see. If you know what you’re doing there, you can do very well. I have been trying to learn about that.

@ThunderOne check out HUYA and IQ for the past month they’ve been running together staying at a very similar price and % - but today they are not.

So what’s the difference today? Why are they not running together?

HUYA doesn’t have options - while IQ does. So the people who sold call options are trying to keep the price down to make it so the options don’t execute and they lose their shares. You should keep this in mind on fridays while trading. This signals to me that this may be a zone to load in - because Monday may run.

....Now that IQ has broken that 40 mark and done a red to green it’s looking bullish.

I set a limit order so I am hoping it triggers sometime today. I saw that it went from down 4% to up 4% rather quickly.
