When I made my rod holders on a cargo carrier that was my concern with 12 foot rods. Some power lines and bridges are only 13'7, around me at least. had to drop it where the butt of the rod was only 8-12 inches off the ground. You could always for transport, break the rod down and keep the top half in the bed of the truck.

It's taking a while for the oil change. The sales guys and service writers are taking pictures of the truck (with my permission). I guess you could say I'm kind of famous here. Lol

yes and no. I originally installed stiffeners when I saw signs of flexing. Then a year later, and some trails, the bed flexed to the point that I didn't feel comfortable going offroad with it (thinking it would completely fail) with stiffeners installed.

So bed flexed at the beginning, installed stiffeners, bed flexed even with stiffeners...flat bed.

So I was just recently made aware of this flexing issue. Can you tell me more about it? My truck is a '15 and bought brand new. I do moderate off-roading and I'm terrified of this happening ha.

I use ski racks for long trips but sometimes we pack more rods than I can carry. I've been wanting a rack to keep my cooler out of the back of the truck.

Well I only saw this flexing occur when I added my cap, rtt, and gear. So I cant see flexing occur unless you are doing high speed stuff. But for the price of the stiffeners they are cheap insurance.

Really the bedside of our truck (the rails that a cap sit on) are just sheet metal, so they bend and rip away from the base/support.

    Check My Sig.
From my understanding, it only becomes an issue when you start adding weight to the rails such as a bed rack/bars with an RTT or a shell. If you have that extra weight and then hit the trails you’re likely to see some flexing.

Also depends on what you consider moderate. That’s very subjective to the individual but without weight you’d probably be okay. As @tacoma16 stated, the bed bars are pretty cheap insurance.

thanks. the only weight on my raill right now is a softopper. I cant imagine that has much if any effect. Trails I ride are in Uwharrie national forest in NC if you're familiar. They have some tricky spots and smaller rocks to climb over but I'm not crawling over boulders or anything. Ill take a look at these bed bars or bracers though thanks for the info.
