Not advocating for one over another. Just saying you should not cheap out because you want both now.

I did a ton of research before i bought my winch. and engo had strong reviews. so i went with them. have used it more then i care to count and its never had a problem. If you want a great winch at , a low price. and still get a new one not used, I recommend them. If your into name brand then Warn all the way.

It’s not actually about where it was made, more of how it’s made. Most equipment made with high profit in mind, is usually made from inferior quality materials. China happens to have a very cheap labor force. That translates to a higher profit margin when combined with lower quality materials being used. The made in China label is still considered a detramental quality to many folks. As was the made in Japan label back in the 50’s... Hell, there are made in the USA products that are poor quality as well. Gotta know what you are getting into if it’s a serious investment. What qualifies as a serious investment wholly depends on your budget.

I bought a smittybilt, probably only used it ~15 times now, each time I had no trouble. I don't trust it 100%, not because of it's performance but because of what others have said about it.

Anyone have experience with those Chinese AllData/Mitchell rips loaded onto a Hard drive? It’s $88 and includes the entire AllData database, plus the entire Mitchell suite of software.

It has the last available version of AllData in software form from 2013. After that AllData went to online use exclusively.

The entire AllData database from 1984-2014 is 576 Gigabytes.

I had a shittybilt winch. Got it bc it was cheap. Worked well for a while then decided it wanted to keep spooling in even when I let go of the remote. So much that it caved my bumper inward.

It was that moment that I realized that a winch isnt something to go cheap on. When you’re out on the trail in the middle of shitville, you’d pay whatever amount to ensure that your winch was in proper working order - more so if you are wheeling alone or with people that dont have winches.

I’ve had a Warn since and never have had problems. Speaking of, my Warn M8000S may be up for sale soon. The truck is now about 7000lbs and this winch aint gonna cut it anymore

Not enough to have a build thread.
Sorry that's one of my pet peeves. AFAIK a LS is a Corvette engine. A 5.3 could be out of a Yukon or 2500 truck. There's also a big power difference between the two. Not knocking the 5.3. I think that's what I'm going to stuff in my jeep.

And when I say stronger gears, I'm not talking about a different brand, like nitro vs idk, another company. A 410 gearset is much stronger than 529s because they have to make the pinion so much smaller to get that ratio. The lower you go, the more prone to failure you'll get. But once you go tons, because the housing and gears are already very large, you can drop to 538s and still be quite stout. I think the lowest you can go with tons is like 717s or something like that. That would probably be a little weak for someone who plans on playing with their tons.
