Running J59 Deaver Springs?

I really have no idea about the 881's. When I did mine I just wanted as close to stock lift as possible and the 880's were it. I didn't measure but I suspect I got 2" of lift up front since they say 1.5" for a V-6. Probably closer to 3" considering the worn out stock springs with 150,000+ miles on them. I think the 881's are just a little stiffer.

I live in an apartment as well. I head over to another state where I have a red-neck friend of mine and his red-neck buddies. Whenever I have something major it's beer and cash for them. They did my suspension for me in his garage. I basically just supervised. Had to make sure they greased and torqued everything right.

It would have taken me a couple of days cussing and swearing if it wasn't for those guys. One guy could do it in a day, probably even half a day with the right tools if he's a younger guy but not me.

Well, if your young and spry you could knock out the front one day and the rear the next day. I was lucky. No rust on any of my bolts. Everything just came right out with the air wrench. I could have re-used the front and rear bolts for the rear springs but had new ones just in case and went ahead and used them. If yours are really rusty it'll be some work to get it apart from what I have read.

 

Kiloyard, I just installed my Deavers. I now have the "stink bug" look weere the rear sits higher in the back. Do you have that look, if so, did you correct it or left it alone?

 

Hmm, I didn't get a stink bug on mine because I had the front lifted with adjustable height coilovers to level it. What are you running up front?

 

I have FOX 2.5 coilovers with DSC. Since I installed the Deavers, it sits about 1" higher than before. I like the way the front is set up but If I need to adjust them 1" higher, will that make the front end ride stiffer?

 

I don't know anything about the ride characteristics of your Fox setup (sorry, I'm a newbie), but it should be pretty easy to adjust them and test it out. My truck drives awesome with 1.5" lift front and back.

 

Yea, I'm fairly a newbie with FOX too, I haf spacers for a while. I'm not liking the rear sitting higher but I've been told that If I added some weight in the rear it should settle. IDK, still reading on the forms with this issue.

 

My buddy and I just installed some deavers on his 02 tundra and they creak like crazy. Can anyone confirm them getting less obnoxious once broken in?

 

My Deavers creak. I was told to shoot them with Tri-Flow or WD-40 but I haven't done that yet. I'll do it today to confirm.

Why is this?

I was considering the Deavers, and then using the shackles I current have, which are ~1" longer than stock. The 1.5" of lift from the J59s probably won't quite enough for me since I will be running pizza cutter 33's so I'll have 2.5" or so in the front, and want it level (ish). I'm not doing leaf blocks to level it.

 

I would think you should use a dry lube, like teflon or something. oil lubes will just make dirt stick to them.

J59 Deavers do add about 1-1.5" of height. Mine did. I also screwed up and bought 1" longer rear, greasable shackles so I ended up with more lift than I wanted. That was about two years ago. It hasn't caused any problems and I keep about 450 lbs in the back all the time so I don't get the stink bug look. I'll be replacing the shackles with the standard length some time this summer.

Believe it or not my J59's never squeaked at all until I hosed them down with Fluid Film. Then they squeaked like crazy until the Fluid Film wore off. Yes, it's true. Go figure. They are totally silent these days.

 

If you want 2.5" out back the J59's and those 1" longer shackles will give you exactly what you want.

 

This is what I figured, @Anthony250 just said you shouldn't run lift shackles and I'd like to hear why he says that...

 

Probably just a preference. I've read that you want the shackle to be perpendicular to the main spring when at rest and a longer shackle would force a narrower angle, wouldn't it?
