Squeaky car help..

I have a 2006 DC LB Sport and I recently noticed that it squeaks all the time. From bumps on the road to just getting in and out of the truck itself. Sometimes its embarrassing in front of others because it makes me look like a fat ass getting out of the truck. Does anyone know what it is from and how exactly to fix this annoying problem?

 

It's the rear leaf spring TSB. Just do a search for it in the forums and you can get part numbers and everything. I ordered the "plates" and am putting them in this weekend ($21 bucks from the dealership).

Its caused by the leaf springs rubbing on each other, the plates are designed to sit in between them and "lubricate" the movement...my truck does the exact same thing. If you are under warranty you can get this covered by complaining at a toyota dealership.

 

Would there be any way you can post the "how-to" pictures on TW? Or are you going to have the service people at the dealer take care of it for you?

 

I had all the TSB's done (4 leaf pack and silencer pads) and it stopped until i got back into the mud and it started again... lifted the truck on a lift and cleaned between each leaf... noise is still there... lubed and goes away for a week then it comes back...

 

If you don't travel in a lot of mud (ie normal driving), you should be able to hose them out really well, let them dry, then spray some chain lube in between the leafs. I used to have to do this every 6 months, but it's been over a year since I had to do it last time. I prefer the chain lube over things like wd40 because it's thicker and tends to not wash off as easily in the rain which causes it to last longer.

 

What are these plates you are talking about? Do you have a part no or a link or more info?

The Service Bulletin is # T-SB-0274-09 (this REPLACES T-SU012-07). It is covered under the 36K warranty for 05-09's, otherwise i have heard the cost is between 75 and 100 bucks, depending on your "stealership" (this is what i have heard, i still have yet to get mine done)

The "Plates" i am talking about are these plastic circles about 1/8" thick and about the size of a half dollar. they have a raised "slot" in the center of each and they are designed to sit between the springs (again, so i am told). The part number is 04009-09104 (previously 04005-36104) and it is called a "Silencer Kit RR". cost me 21 bucks

All this info can be found in the attached TSB. I apologize for telling people to "search for it" before, i just didn't have it all ready. It drives me up an F'ing wall when someone takes the time to actually post "Search the Forum" when they have the info quickly accessible, but just want to be dinks.

My noise is out of control, so i am trying to find somewhere i can get a lift high enough to release the springs...

 

you cant just apply lube between the leafs?

 

I just got my truck back today after intalling a 6" Fabtech lift and started hearing squeaks. I'll find out tomorrow and will let you know what the shop says.

 

yes, you can install lube, but (only from what i have HEARD) these supposedly remove having to do that from the equation. Either way, the noise HAS to go...i sound like i weigh 2 tons gettign out of my truck. And it is way nastier in the heat....

 

i just washed the leafs and resprayed them with dry lube thoroughly and the squeak is now gone
