For those wondering if you can do oil changes at the intervals Toyota suggest

Just got my blackstone test back and paid to have the oil life checked.
This oil change was at 14 000km instead of the 16 000km.

I know everyone has their own opinion on this, some say its better to do sooner etc, others think the engineers that did 100s if not 1000s of hours of testing and research should know well enough. Just sharing my results at least might convince some to keep the oil a bit longer. Hell I was going to do 10 000km changes depending on this test, I'll probably start going with the 16 000km

    Thanks for posting this.

Going to do my second oil change this weekend or next, I am right around 30k mile mark.

A plus for me is that changing oil every 10k miles is easy to remember, lol.

5-7k and done, the oil filter will get clogged before the oil will break down to the point of be useless.

I'm also in the ~5k max camp. Not hard to change the oil... relatively cheap insurance.

Good try but it will make no difference. Somebody will come here and say that their mall trips qualify them for severe service intervals.

It's not like Toyota did any delta P filter inlet and outlet tests lol. Some guys will be changing their oil every 3K on their electric car...

you live in the north, I live in a desert, so different conditions different reasons to change at different intervals.

10k mile oil changes, based on 10- thank you Toyota!

You metric people have lots of cyphering to do with that 16k kilometers interval, lol.

And if changing the oil in your vehicle makes you happy,
and you have the time and money, change it as often as you want, because that is what it is all about- correct? (doing things you enjoy).

    Cheers

As some have said, the filter won't last that long so it's good to change it if you're going to go longer. I usually change the oil and filter every year, I only get about maybe eight to ten thousand miles on my truck per year

I wont lie...one of the reasons i was thinking of changing the interval was to avoid that 16, 32, 48, 64 etc interval

Agreed on those that want to change more often, I don't disagree it is a nice peace of mind I've always done it with previous cars and I've already done it with this one being on my 4th oil change already at 31k km (2000km, 8000km, 16 000km and now 30 000km)

But figured I'd get it tested and see how true it is that you can go longer. And after cutting the filter I don't see why the 16 000km wouldnt be fine. But again everyone can do as they please with this, just sharing my results.

I was thinking of dust/silt. Temperature....is all good. Haven't found anything yet on bypass pressures or surface area of the stock filters. However I have found data from past tacoma's, looks like they tend to make the surface area "significantly" larger than aftermarket. Still trying to find some real numbers (I'm inherently curious about everything)
