So, how cold did it get? Everything survive? We got down to 36 Sunday night and 38 last night. Nothing damaged here.

looks like everything made it...wife thinks it didnt get down to freezing but if we didnt cover the stuff it would have been down to 30...;) yet another year thats different. Thankfully we didnt lose anything otherwise she'd be really mad since most of the stuff we started in the greenhouse and is looking really good.

Embarrassed to say the least! My better half told me to mound the potato plant as it grew. Couldn’t figure out why there were no potatoes on top. Checked out some vids, and come to realize they grow in bunches near the eye, more or less, with a few outsiders. And here I am mounding away, LOL. :anonymous:

Hilling does improve your yield, under most circumstances.

Oh, that’s great to hear and thanks for the link. I’m trying to learn as much as we can. I also found out I have to re-plant the peppers elsewhere as it is not a good thing to plant back to back with potatoes.

In for a long night of canning pickles and relish tonight. The cucumber plants decided it was time to let loose, we're going to be working well into next week!! The tomatoes look like theyre going to start soon too, which sucks because we're going on a 2 week vacation a week from now. Hopefully wont lose too many, really want soup and sauce for the winter.

    Will post pics later.

If you store any of the cukes before you pickle them, don't put them in the fridge. You'll have soggy pickles.

For Tomatoes, if you're using them for soup and sauce just have somebody pick them for you while you're gone and put them in a ziplock in the freezer. They'll still work just as well for that once you defrost them.

Most do well with mounding/hilling but it Depends on the potato, but I did find Yukon golds dont need mounding. heres an example...

This one. Got it from Wal-Mart. Didn't cost much and has held up pretty good.
