I'll take point if needed. But I'm a big wimp with mud and water. Top of the tire is my limit and if I can go around I will.

Are the snakes bad out there? I was going to toss a 22 in the truck just in case.

 

I've never really seen too many out there. I'm bringing the .40 cal though just in case. And yeah, the top of the tire is my limit too. I'll back out and try a different line if the top of my front tire goes under. Unfortunately, since a lot of the crossings out there are running water, there really is no going around for the most part. There's just finding the shallow side. That's sort of why I wanted a big tire truck on point, to find the shallow side for us. But, again, Spencer is more familiar with the trails out there than me so maybe he knows some that aren't as bad as the ones I'm familiar with.

I did notice that there are a lot more of them marked on Google maps than there were last time. Most of them still aren't labeled with their names, but they are marked as trails. I think, unlike Citrus, most of the trails are named, and one we will be avoiding above all others IIRC is Tower rd. Even in the height of the drought back in the '90s it was so long and deep that I backed out of it with my YJ on 16x35 Boggers. I wouldn't attempt to go down it in anything less than a truck with 12" of lift and sitting on 44s.

Good news, my winch still works. I went out and tested it a few minutes ago, hadn't used it in a while. Who says Smitty built XR8's don't last. 6 years and still going strong, guess sealing the solenoid, coating everything in dialectic grease and changing the gear oil to a good synthetic paid off!


Hopefully we won't need it, but it's there if we do. Along with a strap, kinetic rope, tree saver, couple shovels and an axe.

 

I really hope we don't need those last three. It's gonna be too damn hot out there for that shit, lol.

When I get around to buying my winch though, I'm going with Warn. Don't care if it costs more.

One thing I've never understood though. I used to pull cable into conduit for the phone company back when it was GTE. We used a big ass winch truck to do it and we always has a swivel on the end of the cable. Of course, we were pulling 500-1500' runs at a time and our truck winches only have about 100' of cable, but I wonder why nobody has a swivel on their cable?

Hey guys, haven't had a chance to be active on tacomaworld in a while, but I wanted to confirm that I am coming, I will be going up the turnpike to 50 and then taking 50 West right over. I plan on meeting at the original spot (looks like a trash dump from satellite?) At 9 a.m.

If anybody still needs a ride let me know and if it's along the way I can pick you up or convoy whatevs.
