I guess it depends where you are. In Canada the Limited came with JBL, Sonar, and LB that you couldn't get in Canada with those options on any other model. Plus other options including leather and running boards on my '16. So it really depends on what you were looking for.

In Canada we also got 17" sport rims for 2 years, it's only recently we got the 18" back.

The trim is just slightly nicer and looks just a tad more mature.

The previous limited on the 2015's was a poor choice as it had little to offer.

I wish we had the 18" on my truck, that really sucked on the 16/17 LTDs, in my opinion. Toyota cheaped out.

I don't actually wan't 18" wheels. The tires for 18" wheels are something like twice as expensive as the 16" tires.

True but I like money more than something I don't even see when I'm in the truck. What I really want is an SR access cab with leather, JBL stereo, and parking sensors/blind spot monitoring but alas that combination doesn't exist.

You can make the non JBL sound better than the JBL for about $135.

Guess that's what sets Toyota apart from most domestics, limited options on different models. Limited options means less production line variances.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Bottom line for Toyota = MORE PROFIT!

It's only limited to how many they can sell. Now that you can get leather in the sport and OR, unless you like the hickory leather or the 18 inch wheels there is no valid reason to get a limited.

Of course, but it makes sense doesn't it? Why make a 100 variations when you can limit choice to what most people probably want? Domestics need to figure this out.

True, but you now need to look at the difference in price between the two and decide.

I'm sure the way they build their vehicles is analyzed to hell but it seems logical that if they really wanted to save money they would use as many of the same parts across all of the their vehicles and make all of the options and accessories plug and play. If they did that they could just build one model and have the dealers or even end users install whatever options they want.

In a lot of ways they do, consequently a lot of additions are added at Port. I agree with you, that would be the simplest way. Saying that the consumer wants to feel they are paying for something unique and maybe a little customized to what they want. In affect setting them apart from the norm, even though that may not be the case.

the Limited should 100% have more comfort/convenience features, and the TRD PRO should have more power.

seems kinda silly to buy either of those when you can get leather/premium/tech on a Off Road or Sport now. unless you really want the chrome limited badge or the black TRD PRO badge.

The TRD Pro makes more sense though since it does have some actual upgrades over the TRD Off Road (Fox shocks, small lift, skid plates, exhaust, and for 2019 the "desert air intake" etc.) But I guess you can add most of those things to any of the other Tacomas as well.

I have to admit that the Limited badge and the TRD PRO badge are a lot classier than the lame TRD decals however the SR5 also has a nice badge.
