For the life of me I can't find the right "key" to fit this star pattern. It looks aftermarket since the stock ones I've seen is just a slot. Any help or advice would help and be much appreciated!

Looks identical to the lock on my 97. I couldn't get it off. Cut the cable to drop the factory spare, found a usable hanger at the local pick n pull and will have to pull my bed at some point to swap them.

Well that sounds exciting! Looks like you went through the same thing I'm going through then. Maybe I'll just keep it in the bed

I called around, nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. Hope you find one though, that'd be the better way to go

Knock it off with a hammer and you'll have a plain slotted one underneath.

Check with your local Toyota Dealer and see if they have a master key set for the spare tire lock. I believe McGuard makes it for Toyota as well as the wheel locks. I know that we have one some where at the Dealer that I work at.
We hardly sell these locks because customers keep loosing the key. These lock kits are around $50.00.

I'll give that a go before I take a hammer to it, hopefully they can take it off if they have the key. So much trouble for such a simple task. Thanks you for the info.

Check with parts or service, one of those departments should have a master key set floating around. Good luck with it.

I removed the mount completely on my DC and then took the locking portion off. I realized that I could have left it on and knocked it off while on the vehicle with a hammer and long screwdriver.
