According to CarFax and the NVMTIS background checks I ran, the truck has never been crashed, never been salvaged, and held a clean California title (albeit a missing one)

THAT I bought on a gamble. It was $600, I could have gotten my money back. Pick-n-Pull offered me $500 for it.

I don't want a rebuilt or a junk title. I've seen some of these vehicles roll into a shop I worked at years ago and a lot of them had half ass repairs. I once worked on a 94 Toyota pickup that had road rash on the dashboard. Apparently it had been rolled on the 91 freeway and spend some time sliding on the top. At first glance outside the dashboard it looked ok, but once the door weather strip was pulled back it had pretty much bird shit welds holding the new roof on.

The point of the 5-lug wasn't to make a profit, it was for me to practice body work and rebuilding an engine/transmission. As long as I break even I'll be happy.

And looking at the abominations of trucks that sell on the Northern California Craigslist, I don't think I'll have an issue.

Wouldn’t have to spend a lot to get his money back. Heck he probably could get 2x what he’s out into it with the title he has now.

And even if you spent 7k on a rebuilt truck you can probably part it out for all your money back

Obviously there’s a lot of differing opinions here.

I wouldn’t by a rebuilt title unless it knew exactly what the truck and been through.

Or if it was super cheap.

    But that’s just me.

Exactly. People will do anything to get a car back on the road, including shoddy repairs. I'm not taking a gamble on a 4,000 pound mass of angry steel and metal that's supposed to protect me in a crash.

Then you need to buy one that is wrecked and fix it to your standards.

I doubt you could get that much for a part out, maybe $3-4k at the most.

Salvage or rebuilt is only a problem if you want to resell it. If you never plan to sell it then it doesn’t really matter

You're also looking at higher insurance rates.

Or if you get in a wreck on the cab breaks into pieces at shady welds.

Are we still talking about 1st Gen Tacoma's?

Then the selling price for a truck with 300k on the clock and a clear title will sell for the same money as the same truck with a salvage title.

It's good that you guys are aware io the differences, but you do need to do more detailed research.

Which one will sell quicker? I think trying to resell a salvage title truck brings out the meth head, low baller assholes to a level never seen before.

Dude, there is always a list of people that want your truck before you even advertise.

    That dog won't hunt.

I'm not buying a wadded up ball of shit to rebuild. I'm at that age now where I value my time and sanity.

That's why if my current Tacoma ever gets declared a total loss, the insurance company can take it. I'm not interested in parting out, lost weekends and high blood pressure.
