Am I due for a transmission service? My truck is an 05 V6 automatic. w/33k. I have had the regular oil changes intervals along with the 30k Maintenance service. Dealers said not worry until 90k. Seems such a long time to go without trans. service. My truck does not shift smoothly. You can feel the jerk when it shifts from 1st to 2nd but smoothly after that. And when coming down a slope cruising 30mph it seems to search gear a lot from either 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd i don't really know what gears but its switching back and fourth. So should i get it serviced anyways or wait til 90k. I would like for my truck to shift smoothly. I wish something can be done about this because i absouletly love this truck and don't want to trade it in because of the Transmission. 2010 T4R Limited is what i would get. Can someone shed some light on this subject thanks

I would probably go ahead and change the fluid. It wouldn't hurt and it is super easy. You can probably do it in about 15-20 min. The dealer charges out the rear for it, but I did my trans and front diff. all for about $50. The synthetic fluid is about $12 a quart, and you will need a little adapter pump to get the last little bit of fluid in.

I am not a "real technical guy", but does the truck "jerk" when you accelerate nice n' easy, or just when you accelerate hard? What model is your tacoma? TRD Off Road? 4x4? What kind of gear ratio is in the rear? My 07 has the 4.10 and it shifts pretty hard, not really hard, but a good solid shift... always has and it has not given me a problem, but is this is something new you've noticed? Also the shifting while going down a slope could be the downhill assist.

Here again not a real technical guy, but I know this is an awesome forum and someone will be able to help you out.

    Good Luck

It jerk when i accelerate hard and still jerk sometime when i accelerate easy but the jerk is there either way. The only time i feel it less is when i'm accelerating while turning. Its the TRDsport 4x2, don't know the gear ratio but its has the mech. LSD. Its not new its been doing this for awhile now just couldn't find a remedy. Theres no TSB out for it either. I've driven a lot of cars and trucks and it just don't shift like other car or truck i've driven would. Just to name a few i test drove a 2010 4runner sr5 shift like butter. My friend 2005 Nissan frontier Le also shift like butter. Dealer tells me its normal but i know it isn't. I probably need to test drive another 2gen tacoma to see if it replicate my truck.

Does anyone drive in 4 instead of D when cruising 30-35mph?

I run on 4 when driing over the hill area neer me. Just to have tranny not shift constantly from 5 to 4 and back.

Also on the original - how your tranny shifts from N to R? Is there a delay or it puts right away to R?

sometimes, I havent calculated to see if the mileage is better that way, but my bro-in-law says his grand cherokee gets better mileage that way.
I don't believe it will hurt it though.

theres a slight delay. does that mean theres something wrong with my transmission? I mean it goes into R quicker than my old 94 accord but theres is a slight delay.
