Yeah I'll either anchor the legs down with rebar and pour over them or redhead them in.

As long as it lasts a year I'm good. Just don't feel like working on stuff while getting sand blasted on dirt.

Hey, if Go fast campers already has over $1,000,000 in pre sales, why not? The question is what can I design to become rich in this industry.

What did you end up building? I know you talked about going off grid. From what I can tell you decided to run power.
I would love to have a little 2 bed 2 bath house that is completely off-grid.

One of my old clients has a mansion that is able to run 100% off-grid but I am not as rich as him...

Im still slowly in progress. I'm paying as I go, so its not as fast as it could be..but no mortgage when I move in is the plan. Right now, I have the power and septic mostly finished and working on finishing designs for the floorplan. Was going metal building but steel tariffs have deemed that as not worth it anymore. I'll be putting my camper on the property when septic is fully approved. Then I'll go through engineering/permitting to start foundation and framing. This is my current plan, master on left, second bed on right, and oversized 3 car garage on far right. I want to buy something to tinker with... my mind is on a Class 11 type build of a classic beetle right now (just lifted with bigger tires, everything else stock). I've always wanted one, parts are cheap, would be fun to learn about and rally around in. One of my biggest worries about solar was ability to run a welder, that'll surely be the biggest power hog.

    Capture.jpg

Wanted off grid but I'm not great at electrical. From what I could tell, solar would've been about double what I have into power so far. If there wasn't a transformer already there waiting for me, then i likely would've done solar since those arent cheap. But it was just the much easier choice this time around. They do net metering so I'll probably look into some panels so I dont have a bill, and I'll experiment with wind/solar/geothermal/compost once I get the house done so I can plan for the next place.

And the type of toy I want to build...

We shall see what happens with the house situation for me. I dont want to live out of the travel trailer inside of a garage over the winter but if I can find some land that makes it worth the trouble then we will.
Thats exactly what I want to do with my grandpas bug, only with long travel.

From the little bit of research I've done, the stock beetles are pretty capable, the class11 rock through Baja 1000 type races without issue, so i just want that little more ground clearance to bomb around with.

Yeah camper living in the winter sucks especially if it's not a 4 season camper. Find some land with a quaint little cabin, problem solved.

Do any of you have a recommendation for a campground for the RV near sand dune national park and mesa verde? Those will be the first stops on our journey.

I think the nearest rv place is west of sand dunes at some "alien" campground? And i don't think you can rv camp in the park. Unless you go farther South, there's not much around there.

Haven't made it to mesa verde.

San luis state park or mosca campground which are both at the sw corner of the dunes.

The alien place was on atlas obscura, but might've just been tent camping.
