It’s not just stretching the life of something, stuff just goes obsolete quicker and quicker as the years go on. I try to stretch whatever electronics I own (I refuse to let go of my 2012 MacBook Pro) because the new alternatives are just not upgradable anymore. My MacBook was the last year you could change the hard drive out, or the RAM. Nowadays it’s all soldered on so you’re forced to feed Apple all your money.

I did a TEDx talk on this kind of tech stuff a couple months ago. Take a look if you can spare 10 minutes.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Not really though, comparing a Sandy Bridge to a Coffee Lake isn't a huge increase in capability. I don't buy Apple anything, that's a scam I'm not down for, rather sell Mary K makeup to blind seniors.

I'm talking in Apple again - Apple products like to go 'obsolete' every couple years and I'm used to complaining about them. I remember back when I was choosing Devil's Canyon vs. Sandy Bridge with the i7 4790k and the i7 5820k respectively, I went for the cheaper 4790k for my first PC.

The 4790k is still plenty capable. Hasn't given me an issue with my workloads yet.

That reminds me, I got this 2009-era Dell Optiplex 755 with some crappy LGA 775 Conroe Core 2 Duo processor - I bought this quad core Xeon to replace it to use it as a server. The processors used with LGA 771 are mainly professional Xeon chips, and 775 is mainly consumer chips. The only difference is a plastic divider in the socket and the position of two pins. I chopped the plastic divider in the socket off, and used this 'copper converter sticker' which inverter two pins on the processor, and I effectively turned the 775 socket into a 771. Easy upgrade for about $50.

I drove my grandpas old Model A today. Cars sure have came a long ways since the late 1920s. It was pretty cool driving around in the truck that my pap used to run from the law in running moonshine though.

Take a pic of the stickers on the back, assuming they're all identical laptops.

Those are pretty old. The Dell Latitude D630 was released in May 2007.

What's wrong with them all? I noticed one said 'Bad HDD' which is an easy fix. Just need a new drive and upload an OS and you have a good laptop.

I'd say if they were all in working condition, you can get $60-70 for each one. They're old, but still capable as an internet machine.

Good stuff man...you're a natural public speaker. Use that shit. Most people aren't, I hate speaking in front of crowds. I'll seriously do whatever I can to avoid it .

Damn, you did a really good job on that! I don't know how people do public speaking, makes me nervous as hell and scares the shit out of me. Kudos though haha

Damn same time haha. I'm glad someone else besides me does everything possible to avoid public speaking. Once I said my truck broke down on my way to class to get out of giving a speech. If they knew I drove a Tacoma they probably wouldn't have believed me.

Thanks guys! It was kind of one of those skills that came naturally to me - I love being up on stage. I was into acting for a couple of years, so that 'being in front of everyone else' sort of thing was nothing I haven't experienced before.

Do you have the power cords? In the state they're in, they're basically e-waste. If you can at least power them on and confirm they work, then you've got something to work with.
