'Helps, but not always, especially if one does a lot of off-roading or rock crawling.

In order for it to work, a certain width tire has to have a certain backspace right?

Rim rather than tire...but yes. Backspace is basically the same thing as offset, but just measuring differently. When off-roading, you can have major issues with rubbing beyond just the cab mount. Mine isn't too bad, but the rubbing is there.

Haven't used them personally, but some buddies have had good experience.

Another option: G2 Customs out in Morrillton. They do great work.

I've had the internal battle about whether I'd want bigger tires. But with the amount of highway driving I do, I'd rather keep the 265's just for mileage. Having a little more aggressive tread would be nice in sloppy conditions, but I don't need it so bad as to swap out my stockies that fast. I'll run them and cross that bridge later. Besides, to be mechanically correct, a re-gear would be in order, right? That'd be a bit out of my comfort zone to do myself at the moment.

On a 3rd gen running 285's, no. Running anything larger, and the consensus seems to be a firm yes.

I'm going 255/80/17 this fall. Shouldn't effect mileage, don't have to cut anything and will get 33 inch tires to fill the wells and a bit more ground clearance.

    Yeah.
I know that on the 2nd gen, the speedometer is slightly off with the standard tires. However, if you put 265/75/16's on, it's exactly right. I considered going that route, but it is apparently not a common size and options are a bit more limited. Not sure about the 3rd gen speedometer, but I drive like the over-50 person that I am and am not too worried.

I liked them on FB a long time ago. They appeared to do quality work.

I had another person recommend them. I probably need to get a couple quotes.

Powder Coating Pros of Arkansas, 2609 W 18th in Little Rock. Guys name is Anthony Garcia. 501-377-1122. He comes highly recommended by a friend of mine, but have no idea how competitive is prices are.

I used them on my front and rear bumpers, skid plates, and sliders. I don't know how they compare with others on price but they do great work. They stripped my front bumper and re-did it twice because they weren't happy with it. I had to remove the powdercoating from the 'feet' on my sliders so they could be welded on and it was the hardest powdercoating I've removed.

My next size will be 255/80/17 or 255/85/16 depending on which wheels I want to run. Been wanting that size for a while now. I love how they look on the first gens cause the trucks aren’t very wide.
I had Cooper ATPs in 265/75/16. They didn’t last nearly as long as they were warrantied for. Not sure if Discount Tire would have done anything about that since I did all rotations myself and never took it to them for them to have it on record.

I have 305/65/17 and the truck seems to pull them fine with no regear. Did have to do some heavy trimming though.

From what I'm seeing, those 255/85/16s are way pricey and are only available in MT from Tire Rack and Discount Tire. I daily my taco, so I'd have to have an AT. Be nice if BFG made a K02 in that size and didn't cost 250 a tire. They're a great option tho, a lil too skinny for my taste, but height is perfect.

    Yeah.
That'll teach you to take trips in the spring when the bugs are waking up. I haven't checked mine since that dusty trip we took. If it is anything like my air filter was, it could probably use a knocking.
