Hey guys, sorry I haven't been able to come out to the COTA C&C yet. Looks like a badass spot!!

I'm gonna be driving the taco out to Colorado/Utah/Wyoming in late July, was wondering if any of y'all have had any experiences up there worth sharing? I'm looking for some good off road trails to hit and camp at. I'll be in Grand Junction CO for 3 days and then I'm free to go explore and do whatever. Ideally I want to find some nice logging roads that take me to a sweet water feature to camp at or something along those lines.

Also going to have to hit up Moab and Arches since they're like 1.5 hr from GJ - y'all ever been there? Recommendations on places to for sure hit, or places to avoid? I'll probably be solo so gonna have to avoid the real hardcore stuff. Thanks!!

For Moab, get the Funtreks Moab book. Totally worth it! It gives mileage indicators on the trails and came in super handy on all the trails we ran.

Camping is easy in any western state. We usually hit the ranger station for the MVU Maps that show where you can dispersed camp if we are in a national forest. I’d recommend camping in those since the NF’s are Freedom Land! The national parks have many restrictions.

Other good trails are the BDR’s. Many western states have them and so far they have been pretty good. I’ve done sections of the NMBDR and also the AZBDR. I’m betting there is one for the states you will be in

For sure hit up Arches, but plan extra time, most if not all of the arches require hiking to get to (1.5 up to 7)mi if I remember correctly. Wife and I went thinking we woud drive in see stuff and drive out in 2.5 hrs. We did some hikes and took almost 480 photos which took us nearly 5 hrs. If your that close you also have Canyonlands NP right there as well. Haven' t been to CL NP but I have heard good things about it.

We just went through Telluride/GJ area last week on the way to Moab. Imogene Pass is right there in Ouray and Engineer Pass is on the other side of 550. If you have a whole day to wheel you could probably knock out the Alpine Loop. From what I read those passes are not too crazy but there are some narrow shelf roads and there may still be some snow up there. I'd check conditions before you hit them up.

As for the Funtreks book, I second that. I have the Moab book if you would like to borrow it, just need it back because we'll definitely be heading up there again sometime. There's so many trails in Moab it is crazy.

I don't know how much wheeling experience you have, but I would stick to the green trails going solo and give yourself plenty of time. This was my 1st off-roading experience and I couldn't have done that moderate trail alone, luckily my Fiance was there to watch my passenger side in those tight spots. Potash Rd./Shafer trail was easy and the views are outstanding but damn that trail was a back breaker (I already have a bad back).

I'd highly recommend against the Book Cliffs/Sego Canyon trail...it was wayyy outside of Moab, no cell signal and no one around for miles. We got about an hour and half into the trail and ended up turning back around.

Most, if not all of the parks we went to/ passed by had fire bans, including camp stoves.

    Oh yeah, it's HOT!

*Sorry for the book y'all* :hattip:
