Cell Phone Phishing

Anyone get this before?

I'm still wondering what's really going on, but there's a very good posibility I've been phished.

All last week, I've been getting these anonymous phone calls - non of which I've answered because I don't pick up if I don't recognize the number. Calls in the middle of the night, morning, daytime, about 10 calls a day.

So yesterday, I answered one of the numbers and promptly said...You have the wrong number. What number were you trying to call? They gave me a completely weird number that wasn't even remotely close to mine. Goodbye and hung up.

Then, not an hour later - I get another call from someone different. I answered it. The guy says, "Who's this?" and I'm like "Who's this? I think you have the wrong number. What number are you trying to call?" He gives me the same number as the previous guy did. Then - he's asking me for my cell number and he wanted to look it up in google. I'm not really sure what his purpose of doing that was....?? I said, "I'm not giving you my number. You're the one who called me. I think this is a Verizon issue and I'm gonna contact them tomorrow and find out what's going on"

It went round & round and I was on the phone with this guy for 6 minutes. He kept trying to get my phone number which I kept refusing to give it to him.

But amazingly enough - those anonymous phone calls haven't happened since I talked to that guy and told him I was gonna contact Verizon. Imagine that? I hope this means it's over and done.

I contacted Verizon and they couldn't really do anything. They thought maybe it was a botched call forwarding setup or a scam.

Time to pull a credit report.....

Anyone experience this kinda stuff? Be careful out there. Just when you think you're safe - they come up with new ways to trick ya.

 

I absolutely hate it when someone calls my phone and the first thing that comes out of their mouth is "Who is this?"

Next time, put the phone number that called into Google. Chances are you will see that same number with a ton of complaints. You can also report them if this is the case, and the link for that should also show up in the results.

My advice, never answer numbers you don't know. That just lets them know you have an active number and the spam will multiply. If it is legit, they will leave a message.

 

Oh yeah, we've been googling these numbers. Some are landlines, some are cell phones, some from various different states, one number my husband traced to a facebook page....etc.

They're never the same numbers either, so it's not like I can get a repeated pattern.

I haven't gotten any since I talked with that dude yesterday. So hopefully they gave up.

I sometimes get random calls. but i got a black list app on my phone. from what I read online, people can set up a new phone number quick and use it for a few days then cancel and do a new number.
