If Chevy offered a manual trans. with the V6 I might have bought one.

That's what I've heard. Even the job postings I see all say 24/7 on call and expect to make it to post within an hour. So you basically always have to be ready to go in. I'm a single guy, I'm 30, house is paid for. I mean it'd suck for a little bit, but would it financially pay off until I was ready to settle down is the real question.

I had to be able to report to work within two hours of notification, which meant ready to get on the train and go at the two hour mark. I usually headed to the terminal an hour or so after I got the call, then sometimes wait 3 hours for the train to show up. Is it a good move for you? Its a question only you can answer. Be advised I know a lot of guys that walked away from good jobs only to be furloughed by the railroad shortly after being hired. I was furloughed for almost two years and was working another job when they called me back, told them to get bent.

That's another good point. Lately the RRs wait until the last minute to hire, working the sh*t out of the current workforce, but when they finally relent, they tend to go overboard and hire too many, so if you are in a group behind a bunch of other new hires, take it into consideration that you will be the first to get furloughed if the business isn't as high as they expected. If you are looking for work it might be a good place to build some cash, but I wouldn't quit a good, established, job for it.

Air-cooled non-turbo. Turbos are crazy expensive 200k. Normally aspirated are only 50-60k.
