Here's my cheesy slideshow video I did of that exact hike back in August of 2016 (also a dry year). They were all phone pics but you will see the entire trek. The pictures all transition in the direction that I was heading.

So, I won this in a raffle at a Ace Hardware. Anyone have any experience with GoSun products? This unit is obviously for glamping or backyard use. They do make smaller products that look pretty cool. I would have never ever considered purchasing one of these, was checking out and the cashier asked "Hey would you like to enter our raffle for a solar oven". Sure, "donated" $10 for five tickets. I say donated because I never win $hit...until now.

Found this at an estate sale this past weekend. Still works and I haven’t even cleaned it up yet.

As long as you keep up with the seals and a bit of cleaning those stoves are nearly indestructible... Reminds me of a joke though:

A guy is flying on a tiny bush plane in Alaska when something goes horribly wrong. The pilot hands him a parachute and says "JUMP!" just before bailing out himself. Shocked and confused he puts the parachute on and jumps out of the plumetting plane. On the way down he realizes he has no idea how to use the parachute. He's scared he will pull the wrong strap or do something else wrong. Suddenly as he's falling he sees someone coming up from the ground towards him! As the other guy approaches he shouts for help, "Hey! Do you know how to use a parachute?" The guying coming up yells back, "No. Do you know how to use a Coleman stove?"

Picked up a new 12.5' Tenkara rod and a new telescoping small spinning setup for my upcoming JMT fishing excursion. 6 days and only 40 miles on the JMT, fishing every body of water from Mammoth Lakes to Tuolumne Meadows. It's my reward trip for finishing the JMT last year. I told myself I'd go back to certain areas just to do easy daily miles (or even a zero day or two) so I could get a few hours of fishing done every day. Permit reservation is in-hand, hotels in Mammoth Lakes are booked, bus ticket back to Mammoth is reserved, and I already bought my 10 day CA fishing license. All I need to do now is show up and hike. Hitting the trail on July 31.

Sweet! I had bought a tenkara recently when I went hiking in the Big pines creek area. Never got to use it because it was just too damn windy the entire time.

What's the small telescoping spinning set up you got?

Previously I was just using a cheap South Bend 5.5' telescoping spinning rod with an Okuma 20 series baitfeeder reel. For this one, I actually just bought a Plussino telescoping rod from Amazon, taking a chance with a cheap Chinese rod but it's actually built really well. My old South Bend beater was just too flimsy and it wasn't good for longer casts with light spinners. This new rod is slightly longer with a little more backbone but better reel seat hardware. I went lighter with the reel and got another Okuma but it's a 10 series lightweight model to cut some grams. The whole spinning setup is a few ounces heavier than the old one, but it's a better combo. I'll post pics in a bit.

I'm not worried about carrying the spinning setup collapsed and exposed on the outside of my pack, but I'm trying to decide if I want to carry the protective tube for the Tenkara rod or not. I think it will be robust enough when collapsed to just put in my pack's side pocket next to my water bottle.

I had my tenkara strapped to the outside of my GG gorilla that past weekend without the tube and it was just fine. Sometimes something would happen and it would grab onto the wire/rope that was wrapped around it, but I had an extra flexible tie to keep it all stashed nice and tight.

Or maybe a Svea 123 stove. Always felt uneasy lighting the fuel to pressurise the stove. I bought a pump for it and that was way worse when the pump had a leak and turned into a flame thrower. :)

The filler cap gasket and the SRV (Safety Release Valve) pip need to be checked.
Only one or two pumps is all that you need with that stove, and really only when cold.
After the stove gets hot it has more than enough pressure, and nowhere for that pressure to go.

You can prime it with alcohol.
