If you are running 5k OCI, it doesn't matter. Use either one with confidence in your 4-cylinder. Although running Mobil 1 for only 5k is a bit of a waste IMO.
The difference is, Mobil super synthetic is comparable to a synthetic blend while Mobil 1 is the "full synthetic" offering.
What were your dad's arguments for switching from Valvoline FS to Mobil 1? Practically speaking, there's not a lot of difference between them.

I am more interested in the story behind the bodywork :D

I hit a Prius at low speed while changing lanes. The Prius lost...

$950 in damage to my Taco (paying out of pocket); $2,500 or so in damage to the Prius (to be covered my insurance company, and I have accident forgiveness).

I ran semi-synthetic blend for the first 79,500 or so miles of my truck's life, but then I put full synthetic in my truck last January because we were having a brutally cold winter (below zero at times) and my truck was struggling to start after it sat overnight. I was going on a trip to the Poconos for a friend's birthday the following day and I didn't have time to drop the truck off at my mechanic, so I went to Valvoline. My dad got a deal on Mobil 1 at BJ's...

If the "super" stuff is only for high mileage (which seems to be from the picture posted on the first page), don't get it. It is designed to make seals swell and stop leaks.. but if you go back to regular oils, the seals may shrink back to their original state and you may have even more leaks than you did before. Only do it if you have a beater and don't give a shit about it, and don't have the time/money/ambition to change each seal if/when it goes bad.

I'm not going with the super, and I plan on running Mobile 1 synthetic for as long as I own the truck.

That should be fine then. Not going to get into a debate about synth, but you can and probably should do a minimum 7500 OCI unless you drive in harsh stop and go conditions often. Just make sure to change your air filter when necessary.

I REALLY miss my parents' '04 Honda Odyssey. We bought it new and had it for 9 years and over 130K miles. The rear-seat DVD player quit working in about 2008, but other than that it was trouble-free. If my dad hadn't bought the Tacoma in '09, I would have gladly taken the Odyssey. Sure it's a minivan, but it's based on the Honda Accord platform, it has a 240hp V6, it has ICE COLD dual A/C, it has a surprisingly decent factory sound system, and it has plenty of space in the back for two people to have a little fun ;)

The list goes on! I miss that van!

Let me back up. I keep forgetting the 4 cyl runs 0W 20... which is only a synthetic oil. You can’t get that weight in conventional (total conventional). So we aren’t talking conventional vs synthetic like we would for the V6.

The 0W-20 is thinner at non-operating temp vs 5W-30. So it will be thinner at colder temps. So no benefit to going synthetic in cold weather since 0W-whatever is the best cold weather oil you can get anyways and is always semi-synthetic.
(0W-20 in a blend is basically thinned down 5-W20 conventional oil w/ synthetic until it gets down to 0W-20).

I’d only go full synthetic if you are going to run your truck 10,000 mi or more bewteen oil changes. Its just a waste otherwise.
You wouldn’t gain performance differences since the engine requires a synthetic weight anyways.

Arent brakes too? Why cant they use ATF? All they need to do is make cylinders compress right? Honest question.

Will running my truck 10,000 miles between changes cause any damage to the engine?

OP don’t get raped check your rear drums yourself. I have 120,000 mile on my rear brakes and they are about 4mm thick. I’m should make 200,000 on my rear brakes.

Yes why. Pad thickness is acceptable. I don’t know what the minimum is.

My left front caliper seized sometime between October 2017 and March 2018. I brought my truck to the dealer right before St. Patrick's Day because it was making this obnoxious squeaking noise. At the time of the safety inspection in October, my brakes were at 50%. When the dealer looked at it in March, the front left pads were totally gone and the front right pads were at 25%. My drum brakes were discovered to be nearing the end of their life and I was told I should probably replace the shoes before the end of the year if I wanted to pass inspection in 2018. Sooo...

My truck is in the body shop and my body guy is also a mechanic. I am in the Outer Banks with my family for a week, and I left the truck with the body shop for the week so I won't be without a vehicle or have to pay for a rental...
