I am also driving up from San Diego. Stoked to see the GFC in person and to meet some of the team!

Tepui does not include a hard sided truck shell, not even closely comparable.

I don't disagree that there is a lot of value in the GFC and feel this whole trade war thing is utter BS. $5k was just my affordability point with a raging internal arguement over the potential lighting and front window options. Or, maybe just the front window and add the lighting down the road. I'm still out 9mo or so before being able to order, so there is time for things to correct themselves.

I'm just noting to @JoeCOVA that the GFC might swing back to his price point.

Also, Wiley said that they might go down in price after about 24mo. That was when this all started though. I can understand if that doesn't happen since it was noted as a possibility.

It's all about value to the consumer though in the end. Sure the price point may be comparable to a flippac and while I can afford both, to me, they simply aren't worth that much. Flippac is no longer made and likely due to that pricepoint.

I think the value becomes worth it when you decide you want an enclosed truck topper and a tent. At that point the GFC is the least expensive high end option. You could buy a $500 fiberglass topper and an $800 soft tent, but to be comparable in quality you’d need to buy a $3300 Alu-cab topper and $3000 Alu-cab tent. I’m a cheap bastard and putting this much money on the line was tough but so far I have absolutely no regrets.

On the contrary from what I'm reading, its about $6k just for the camper top, windows and the rest its all add-on options.

EDIT: Its easy to find products of similar price but its also easy to find products that are are still cheaper. can get a high quality topper and tent for $4k. Cannot convince me that it is worth it at the moment.

Like I said, you can get less expensive stuff but it is cheaper. You can’t match the quality of the GFC at those price points. It would probably still work for 95% of us too, but I like fancy machined parts and the integrated topper/tent rather than two separate pieces.

True, but that canopy will not likely hold up to the abuse a GFC was designed for. Keep in mind the idea behind this was a lightweight, rugged camper that could handle baja style abuse.

Until you're really gone through whoops and maxed out your truck's capabilities, it's hard to understand the punishment your truck will see. A fiberglass shell with a heavy RTT like a Tepui would not survive in a long run. This will.

    For example:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp0ubL7MJhI

My truck is only mid travel, but i hammer it as hard as i can get away with. When you start breaking things and have to start replacing items, the added cost of repairs and replacements can easily justify the large up front cost.

As said above, value is dependent on the need of the consumer. For me, the value is there. It's just about pinching pennies to save for the large up front cost.

I don't doubt its decent quality but you are completely dismissing the quality of other products from companies who have been around a lot longer. Machined aluminium isnt a benchmark.

I guess time will tell if it holds up.

I wish more people had this point of view, then maybe I'd already have my gfc by now.

If the conversation isn't worth it to you, then move on. I never understand this logic with some people, they feel they need to try and justify their opinions when someone disagrees. That's cool just seems pointless to basically try and convince someone that isn't going to be convinced.

    ...too much shit to list.
    Who cares.

If you like it, want it, and willing to spend the money on it...buy it.
If any of those aren't true, don't buy it.

Its because deep deep deeeeeeppp down they really actually do what it and are hoping for justification from someone else in here to allow their true feelings to blossom forth.

I don't get my tires in the air, but I do hit a lot of washboard that shakes the crap out of my rig. One of the things I like most about the GFC is the steel welded frame that is strong and also holds up to fatigue much better welded aluminum, fiberglass or wood - all while being extremely light weight and highly functional with operable sides and the ability to open up the tent floor to the tuck bed. I get not have the money to buy one, but if you can afford something in this price range, I think the GFC has a great design and is priced very competitively. My two cents.
