    That works for me. Looking at Amazon, there are a lot of choices for contacts, solenoids, and rebuild kits, but as soon as I filter by vehicle, I get nothing but 4 pole relays and alternators...

    Honestly, whatever you have on hand. I just sprayed it all with spray white lith, but I would have used wheel bearing/chassis lube grease if that's what i had. Just make sure you push the spur gear out and lube the shaft behind it. Oh, and there might be a little ball bearing the plunger stem rides on in the spur gear. Don't lose it. Mine tried to escape, but luckily it didn't get far.

    Super happy to see, after reading THIS thread that I don't need to drop the skids. I just have to pull the tire and splash guards. Down side is, when I installed the Protec splash guards, they came with heavy duty mounting clips. I'm hoping I don't trash them too bad...

    The skid plate isn't the only thing in the way. My choices are 1) separate the intermediate steering shaft, 2) drop skid plate, remove exhaust, and remove front drive shaft, or 3) remove UCA. As of right now, the intermediate shaft is soaking in PB Blaster.

    Well, F#$k me to tears. 2nd Gen problems. To get mine out, all I have to do is drop the skid, remove an exhaust bracket (three bolts, easily accessible), remove the 2 starter bolts, the nut from the battery cable and unplug the solenoid trigger wire, then rotate the starter about 180* or so and slide it out aft over the steering rack (some minor relocation of steering rack tubing maybe be required). It's a pretty easy job all things considered. Yours looks like a huge PITA.

    Yeah. I'm 4 hours in (minus a couple of breaks to cool down, google instructions, and eat some dinner) and the starter is still sitting on the frame rail.

    Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?
    My 4Runner is the easiest. 5 minute job, no jack even needed, just right in through the wheel well.

    Now the alternator was a different story. In a parking lot after a Hard rock trip with limited hand tools. Not fun.
