May be stupid, but whats up with the Supercharger people are doing to their trucks? Anyone have any good threads on this, price, installation, who installs this. Thanks

I can give you a few things...although I'm n/a and saving up for my TRD S/C...there are some things to consider...

    currently there are 3 S/C kits made for the 1GR-FE motor...its the TRD S/C, URD MK1 and MK2 S/C...

most people get the TRD S/C due to the fact that its a Toyota product and you can be covered under factory and extended warranty. If you install the S/C yourself I believe that the warranty is up to 15K miles and save you anywhere from $400-750 of cost for installation. If you get Toyota to install the S/C, they will warranty the s/c up to the remainder of your warranty...if your 30K warranty is up the s/c will be warrantied up to 15K but if you have extended warranty the s/c will remain covered under the warranty policy until it has expired...Another thing to keep in mind is that if Toyota installs the s/c they will have to flash your ECU to adjust timing and A/F Ratio for the larger injectors. Also keep in mind if you decide to sell your truck and part it out you will have to pay anywhere from 4K-5K for a new ECU because the ECU once flashed by toyota for the s/c CANNOT be flash back to stock.

URD has the MK1 and MK2 kits out. The MK1 kit is solid but the MK2 is a whole other beast. I say that because the MK2 kit has 3 different stages and allows you to build up the s/c for more power. smaller pulleys, DTLH, URD competition Y-pipe, URD Exhaust, and a tune from Gadget will get you tons of HP...

All 3 kits are awesome in their own way. Where as the TRD S/C makes gobs of torque because its a roots style s/c...the MK2 makes gobs up HP higher up in the power band range...it really comes down to what you want to use your truck for. High rates of speed like drag racing, auto cross, baja style driving I would suggest the MK2. If you do more off roading like rock crawling, trails, mud bogging, etc...I would choose the TRD S/C...

another thing that's awesome is if you own a '05-'08 Tacoma with the 1GR-FE...there is a tuner unit called the APR X-1. This piggy back unit is so awesome that once you install the X-1 it will learn every performance part there after and adjust the tune by itself for optimum performance. of course you can hook your laptop up to the x-1 and run data logs. by doing data logs you can then send it to either APR, Gadget from URD, or any of the X-1 guru's around and they will help you diagnose the data and tune the map for even better performance. X-1 also turns your check engine light into a shift light cause it raises the redline from 5500 rpms to 6200 rpms. It even has a launch control for those who like drag racing but don't want to lose traction off the line. If you remember that I mentioned that Toyota reflashes ECU's for S/C applications...well if you have the x-1 installed to the ecu prior to getting a reflash...you can always reflash the x-1 back to stop settings if you ever decide to sell your truck and part it out to get some money for your next venture...

APR also makes a 7th injector, E85 injectors (E85 octane is rated between 101-105...makes more power but less MPG), and they are in the works for a T56 transmission swap. The 7th and E85 injectors can be combined with the TRD S/C to make even more power if that's what your seeking. URD has a different setup from my understanding to gain more power.

like i said before it really comes down to what you want to do with your truck...if you have any questions feel free to hit me up through pm's...good luck and keep us posted on your decision...either way you go...you pay to play...:D

Excellent post Tollphr33. I think you covered it well. Also, the TRD S/C has a number of nice add-ons for adidtional power. Both URD, APR, and NST have a number of pulleys to help you get more out of the blower. I would highly recommend getting the APR X1 kit. It makes a big difference and the engine guardian is worth the price alone.

don't forget that the x-1 also improves throttle response and for both n/a and s/c open up the engines potential greatly...

IMHO the x-1 throttle response has improved the truck so much...that 2nd feels like 1st, 3rd feels like 2nd, and so on...:D

sorry I kind of forgot to mention the URD, APR, and NST pulleys...but I didn't want to hog all the awesome info...lol

Being that you have a 2010 your only option is the TRD s/c with dealer reflash. X-1 won't work on the 09-10s.

good looking...I didn't even think to look at what year or type of tacoma he had...

the 2010 ecu pin setup is different from the '05-'09s...because of this, toyota is the only 1 with the design and the only 1 making that type of pin configuration making it hard for companies like APR to make a X-1 or other tune computers compatible with the new ECU and pin configuration...

once toyota releases the wiring I'm sure other companies including APR will make a X-1 Version 2 (X-2...:D) for the 2010 and dual VVT-I 1GR-FE motors...at least that's what we are all hoping...
