An illegal immigrant was granted a 1 year reprieve after being arrested and the deportation process started so she can finish her education. I'm sorry, but if she gets arrested and is here illegally, send her butt back to Mexico now. This stuff is really pissin me off.

Yea I can respect the whole trying to get an education thing, but come legally and do it. They arrested her for driving without a license and decided she could stay for another year anyway to finish school. I don't agree with that at all. Send her to wherever she came from, let her LEGALLY get her citizenship, and let her pick up school from there.

I've heard this story over and over...and honestly I'm glad she gets the year.

She was brought here when she was 11...it's not like she made the choice to be here. She wasn't receiving HOPE scholarship, so if she's here...paying and making good grades...I say let her stay to finish school. There's way more US citizens that could only dream of being that useful to society.

Not much......college student using the GI Bill to survive.
To qualify for FAFSA and other government grants you have to be a citizen or permanent resident so she isn't getting her schooling paid the gov't.

You are joking, right? Taxes, paid by hard working American citizens, go towards her education.

But regardless of who is paying for that education, she is illegal. Get the hell out.

No, she is not getting any grants because she's illegal. She doesn't qualify. But you're right, she is illegal but she came here when she was young by her parents. At least she is trying to get an education and not popping kids left and right and applying for Government aid.

I don't care if she's here for school or not. Or if she was brought here when she was young. None of that matters. She's illegal. Send her back home and let her get her greencard, then she can come back and go to school legally.

So now this could set a precedent of "Oh I'm here illegally, but if I go to college I'll get to finish school before I'm deported.

No. If they're illegal, get them the heck out of America. I don't care if they're "useful to society" or not. They're here illegally. Kick em out as soon as ya find em

I agree that breaking the law is breaking the law...but I doubt if anyone here would've done anything differently if they were in her shoes. I think this girl getting to stay is in the same boat as a cop pulling you over for doing 5mph over the speed limit...yes, it's breaking the law, but it's also a waste of everyones time to try to stop something that doesn't really matter.

I think it's insane to try and make an example of this girl...that the news gives this so much coverage, while that bust on ACORN for knowingly funding drug dealers, pimps and prostitutes barely got any coverage outside of fox news.

It's absurd that something like this even flies on the radar...someone who was brought here as a child trying to stay and now PAYING to educate herself.

If you want to police government dollars...there's a lot of better places to start.

she should have applied to be a citizen when she became an adult... its not like she was unaware of her immigration status. Its not too hard to apply for a student visa or permanent residency. She just continued to skate by until she got caught... I am glad that she was at least being productive and not too big a drain on the rest of us Americans... but seriously, she's obviously a smart kid to be flaunting our laws like that, she knew she was illegal and was either too lazy or simply didn't give a shit about the laws to do anything about it. Send her back until she can do it the right way.

I'm know they do...or she could stay here another year and put her money here and fund our economy.

What's the point of demanding she goes back to mexico...you think that any other illegal immigrants will take notice and turn and go home? I fail to see why her staying another year is a bad thing for this country.

I'm not saying it's right what she did...I'm just saying it's a waste of time to bother deporting her now over a year from now. She's caught...let her finish and then leave.

I agree except for small children who are already here and were brought here by their parents. I think they should apply to be legal when they turn 18 if they fail to do this then yes boot them the hell out. It not really their fault that they are here and if this is the only home they've ever known sending them back would be wrong.

Now the parents GTFO... you knew better!

I think she should get a award for being so "courageous", and for standing up against the "gringos". That's a bunch of Tea bag'n racism right there that she has to deal with; so brave! lol

We are a society and country of rules, if we don't follow them. Then we are no longer a society. And then we will fail, and the system breaks down. Just like it is doing now.

Get her, and deport her back to her native country.

By attending a public university, the government is picking up a large part of her education. And if she is here illegaly, where is she getting the money to pay for her education? Perhaps through some illegal means? Lets face it, she isn't leaving next year either. Hope her education helps her while she is picking oranges.

I am sick of it, too. Wait til she runs into you with her car that doesn't have insurance. If its a serious accident and she is drunk and kills someone, she will be the first to claim she is Mexican and flee the country.
