well today went to dealer for 25k service at 24140 because last service was at 19.5k....asked to check out HPFP chirp, even thought it is not chirping until i get on highway.....asked them to check the fuel door rubber bumper......left it there for 5.5 hours and requested no wash.....Asked for oil and filter change....

when i got car back, i was charged for tire rotation, and for rubber bumper that they had to order....i questioned theist the payment register and they contacted my service advisor who took it off.....

as i left, i quietly asked my service advisor why my rotors are growing material and my tires hd not used any rubber for 15k miles....i also asked why the brake pad are growing......

after i got home, my service advisor called to ask me if i was serious about the rotor reading and tire depths....i said i was very serious.....i also mentioned i was curious about whether they rotated my tire since i marked one ( i really did not do that, just wanted to see his reaction)....he told me that he would go look at video and call me back....

well, 30 minutes later he called me and said the video showed the tech “did not rotate tires”....my question then was how did he check brakes and rotors?....he said he was going to show the video to the general manager and service manager and let me know what actions will occur.

i told him at this point i am not too comfortable with any of the services i am getting there based on all of this and the other issues that the tech did not address correctly...i told him because of this, i should get 3 free oil changes with filters......he agreed and said he would take care of it.....

So, bottom line here, is if you have any doubt as to whether or not work under warranty or requested items being performed, make sure you mark things and take pictures.....even then I find they sometimes do not believe the pictures....which in my case, led me to email Jim Lentz for resolution.....

just make sure before you leave, you check everything.....

It's good to pay attention to items on your truck to make sure they are honest. Tire rotations suck and a lot of techs will skip it if they can. Tacomas pretty much always need rotations, there's rarely a time where they don't.

Next time rather than bluffing make sure to actually mark the tires. Keeps the system honest and doesn't get the tech in trouble needlessly.

I can measure pads/shoes without removing rims on Tacoma, the drums have an inspection port, and we also know roughly that the rear shoes should be 3-4mm on a taco with 25k. It's not the right way, but it's how I check quickly on a quick inspection.

I think the last time in for my 25k checkup they didn’t rotate the tires either, next time I am checking thoroughly

If the tech is still working there after the managers finish their review I would pass on the free oil changes and go somewhere else.

This would anger the troops, firing someone over a video surveillance catch is bad for business as well. You don't fire people over a single incident like this, you reprimand and resolve the issue with the customer.

    all tore up already
Sounds like you caught a bad dealer, but there are legitimate reasons for readings to be off. Doubt you get 3 measurements per tire, measurement of each brake pad etc.

Caught a local dealer taking my supplied oil and filter out of my truck and not putting into my truck at 5k. Was not happy

Not when there's a deliberate intent to fake the test/data, he would be gone if I was the manager, I would want to be sure the 'troops' got the message. Also, the chances of this being the first time he did something like this is slim and none, just the first time he got caught. If the managers let it go with a slap on the wrist then you know where their priorities are.

Off topic, but OP, I saw your fuelly page and saw that bed tent you had. Which bed tent is that? Can you link it for me? I've been looking for a bed tent to purchase that will work with trifold tonneau if folded.

my issue with the measurements is that they either dont change, dont go down indicating wear or they grow material.......15k with no wear on tires in interesting, especially since they are OEM firestone destinations,,,,and that rotor have grown in size with basically no wear on drums

will do......i have the MX4 and fold it up....put tent on and have a little room on top of the fold...i just dont want to take the tonneau off....

it is a Napier Model 57...negotiated good price....

BTW:....i cut around the tonneau so that the inside floor of the tent would go to the bed.....

Sunday the chirp from the HPFP was so loud it was embarrassing every time i came to a stop....went by the dealer and made video so they could hear the chirping.....called my service advisor monday and he said he would talk to the shop foreman and see if they could just order it based on him hearing if on the 25k service.....he did not call me back so i went in yesterday and talked to the customer service manager....my service advisor was not there....I was told thatchy would have to take and verify the chirping using the computer....(LOL).....he made an appointment for me today at 0930.......so this morning (WED) i got a call from my service advisor saying that the shop foreman told him to create the work order and order the part....i did not have to go in....so they will call me when part comes in......warranty under the TS-B......now, i hope they put the right part in and not just a new old part one

Par for the course at a dealership. Happens all day everyday and 99% of people never know. Is just one of the handful of reasons I steer clear and do everything myself.

Update: took my truck in today.....HPFP was replaced per the TS-B....no noise now at least it is “reduced” per TS-B.....I asked for and got rental car for free....I was given a stock F-150 XLT DCSB....Manual everything....a/c, seats, no nav, good side view mirrors, poor rear view mirror, big interior with tons of room in back seat but i could not reach the rear view mirror......The engine cuts off at stops and starts when you take your foot off the brake.....ride was very smooth and engine and transmission were in-tune with each other......but........

its too big for me and hard to back in to parking spaces because of the height and front end length.....not my cup of tea....got mine back and was day and nights difference....love my Tacoma......

Except for warranty work, my vehicles never see the dealer after the purchase. I worked at a GM dealership in the seventies prepping cars, new and used. You had 45 minutes to wash and hand wax the car, remove all protective coverings from inside the car and wash the inside of the windows. You can do this easily once the dealer teaches you the trick. You wash the whole vehicle, but only wax from just under the door handles up. When someone buys a new car they slide their fingers down the side of the car or across the hood and feel how slippery it is. They NEVER feel the paint below the door handles.

This dealer had a 275 gallon bulk oil tank that contained US oil. The oil was of such poor quality that if you didn't add a can of GM engine oil supplement (something like $6 back then) the hydraulic lifters would clatter when they were hot. Customers were routinely charged for tire rotations that never took place. They were also charged for genuine GM parts and rebuilt parts from local parts houses were installed. This in not a case of "I heard", but a case of "I saw".

I won't even get into the infamous 'wall jobs' where someone drops off their vehicle for warranty repair and the vehicle is kept for a few days and returned all fixed, even tho it was untouched.

I've talked to people that worked at Ford and Chrysler dealers. Seems this is a common level of 'service'. I have zero experience with Toyota or other makes, but the posts above make it seem like this low level of service is common all over.

if the little forker did it once, he's done it before and management damn well knows it's happening.

Man that sucks. You could've, or should've, gotten more than just 3 free oil changes for that mess. My dealership does free lifetime oil changes and tire rotations.
