    Impact gun adjusted full is over 200+ Ft Lbs.( Lugs spec 83 Ft Lb) Drilling studs is only way to save rims. If rest are still on you will be fine to use it for work.

    Shit...I use an impact on my lug nuts all the time, never had an issue. I don't tighten them up all the way though with one, I use my wrench for that and finish them off by hand.


    Makes me think I should ditch the impact though for taking them off...

    Ya this has me stumped, you got a pretty big issue on your hands. How ever you end up getting them off make sure you update on how you did it. Maybe try to hammer a 12 point socket over them? This is a guessing game now

    Actually this is a great idea! Let’s just say in a previous life I was introduced to how to remove lug locks without the key.

    Those x lug nut bars are cheap and can be hammered on pretty easy.

    So the lug nuts are an alloy and the studs steel, right?

    My guess is they were crossed threaded going on and the studs cut new threads in the nuts. And the impact over tighted them as well.

    Id certainly try removing the rest by hand, so you can feel if there is a bind. If so, tighten it back just a little then come off again. Repeat till removed; youll likely be 'cutting' threads backwards.

    On the broken ones, is there a shoulder left you can get a socket on?

    If not, a 1/4" wide hardened chisel driven on the edge of the remaining nut material may well cause it to split, allowing you to get it off

    Antiseize on the studs and hand tighten. I have the same lugnuts, 8 years on the same set.

    This is a comparison of the one that came off to one of the ones that didn’t.

    I think the drilling the stud out method is going to be my route. I got two of them hollowed out pretty good but it got dark and I want to get new bits tomorrow to finish with.

    I am drilling into the studs on the spacers, not the truck studs. So I don’t care about them. The whole point was to take them off anyway.

    Yes I learned my lesson. No more impact putting them on even though I’ve done it for 20+ years. This was a new impact though. But battery, not pneumatic, so I didn’t think this would happen.
