Personal property tax is a way of measuring wealth. Generally people who own more expensive cars, make more money. So instead of the counties taxing based on income like they do in MD, VA chose to tak personal property (vehicles). It was being phased out but then the Republics got voted out and the Dems halted it. Not a political condemnation of that party. Had it been phased out it would simply have been replaced with a different tax that was more subtle.

Texas sales tax is about 50% higher than VA. Property tax on real estate is higher. The government is going to get its' money one way or the other. You can pay it in one lump as a personal property tax bill, or you can nickle and dime via excise taxes, surcharges, user fees, etc.

Welcome to Virginia. :D I moved here in 1989. It was probably 1999 before my Mom finally gave up and stopped asking me when I was moving back to Texas.

    Two lift install questions...

Last night I watched a couple of videos on how to install my lift.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOW-FRDl5wg
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spGpKnBejUI

and one on how to install the UCA's.

Then because I can't memorize all this shit, I used my Google-Fu to find some printed instructions and then jotted notes on there to combine what seemd the best between the various versions.

The videos say to mark then loosen the alignment cams and realign and tighten afterwards. The two printed don't say anything about that. Any input on whether I need to loosen it?

Secondly... since I am replacing the UCA, when I take that out shouldn't the strut come right out when I unbolt it, or do I still need to unbolt the LCA to drop it down enough?

From my second gen id say
    1. You will need to loosen the alignment bolts only to align. For my truck all of my adjustments where for toe and camber. Toe i did on the tie rod and camber on my spc control arms.
    2. The strut should come out no problem but you will likely need to loosen the lca to get the new strut in.

Edit* because your replacing the uca i would split it there and NOT at the lca.

I figured it would be a bit of a drive to any decent wheeling. It's a little disappointing, but all the good jobs in my field are in the DC area.

Good... I hope I never see another jumping cholla again.

    That's what she said...

I had it pretty good, no state income tax because I am Texas resident, lower property taxes because I lived in AZ, and my registration was about $33 per year regardless of the value of my vehicle. I generally dislike taxes, but I would rather get taxed on what I choose to spend instead of being taxed for my success.

Some people do the LcA method, some dont. But when you unbolt the spindles, the uca should be out of the way enough to put in the coilover.

Also you will have your sway bar in the way. Need to disconnect that from both sides, in order to work on one side. Might as well remove it.

When are you doing the install? Someone should be around to help.

EDIT: also you shouldn't have to drop the LCA that much. When you put the UCA in, you can pull it down to fit with the new suspension. Rather than trying to pull the LCA up.

Ok, came across this one, so I see it more clearly now. Looks like I don't have to touch the lower at all. Different lift components, but same principle.

@fatfurious2 Not sure when I will get to it. Probably first weekend in July when I switch back to daywork and if my buddy has garage space I can use. My garage is full of shit and my driveway is gravel so a pain to do any work requiring lifting a vehicle and crawling under it.

If im around and not working, im down to help. You can lay down some cardboard to help with the gravel.

There's two methods when installing a lift. Removing LCA from spindle for room to work, or removing UCA from spindle. In that video, they do the LCA method which is why they loosen all that stuff and the LCA swings out of the way.

Since you're replacing the UCA, you don't need to loosen the LCA alignment bolts or unbolt it from the spindle.

Anyone have a brand preference for gears? And not ECGS assemblies, just the gears themselves. I have no idea what brands are better and they all seem to be around the same price.
