Was shopping for a + size 27.5 hardtail. Scored an insane deal on a new closeout 2017 scale 730+ for half price, which is eerily similar to my genius 720+.

Stripped the 2x drive train off in the first hour and sold it an hour later on Craigslist. Just ordered an NX Groupset.

I’ve never done this much DIY work on a bike. Any tips for installing an entire drive train?

How about getting this shimano BB out without the proper tool?

    Pic for your help

Get your new BB, take it t your LBS, have then pop out the old and install the new BB. Since it's press fit, you'll need the right tools to get the new BB in anyway.
The rest is easy peasy. Install crankset, hang rear derailleur, install new cassette (need chain whip and ring wrench), get chain set up (make sure you put the chain through the jockey wheels right), hang shifter, string cable (loose is better on SRAM, keep barrel all the way in when you set up, shift to smallest gear), dial in limit screws and b-tension, use barrel adjuster to set up your index. Done.
Tons of youtube vids to guide you through. Don't get too frustrated that your gears will soon shift crappy, the cable stretches, just re-index the gears by tightening the barrel adjuster.
Hope that helps. Honestly, I HATE adjusting shifting, it always frustrates me sooner rather than later.

Agreed man, I can do a lot on the bike but I don’t play around with press fit BBs. It’s actually a major criteria for me to only have threaded BBs although there are some sick press fit bikes out there.

Thanks a lot man! I was leaning towards getting the LBS to swap the BB after watching a few poorly executed diy’s on YouTube. Should be well worth the 1/4th an hour of labor. I’m pretty pumped to dial this thing in. The last piece to the puzzle will be a fox 32, but I’m going to ride this for a while before that.

You are welcome as long as you don't aggressively tear up our trails. I run into lots and lots of very nice motos on the trail that also try their hardest to take care of the trail and I am more than happy to share, but I also cry a little when my favorite trails are in horrible shape because motorcycles really tear up the switch back corners and the only people that show up for trail fix days are mountain bikers.

Rode two days this weekend in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, off Hwy 4 near Bear Valley. Camped at Lake Alpine; rode a 15 mile loop, 1400 ft climbing from camp the first day, the next day on the drive home, we stopped down the mountain in Arnold and rode a bit less than 10 miles with over 1800 ft of ascending (and descending). All on Forest Service land ... some bits were clean, packed and flowy, other sections varied from loose dirt/baby heads/slickrock to just plain hike-a-bike. The terrain and landscape rival Downieville, plus legal camping (campground or dispersed) near trails and facilities, but somehow it just doesn’t get the love to keep the trail network going. Next time I come up I’ll bring my Rogue hoe and McCleod.

It’s not ridable, the landing looks prime but the ramp at the take off isn’t so prime. They shut it down, too many people have got injured there and I don’t think they wanted people trespassing on the railway any more. I’m sure if you had a group of guys you could put the old ramp back in place and fix it up to make it work. It’s not small but looks way bigger from that angle than from the take off.

First ride on my new to me bike! Brand new tires...went with bigger than stock 2.5 DHF and Aggressor's rear. Not sure if it was me, new tires, or the heat but the bike was a little squirrelly, not as much traction as I expected. Could it be too much psi? 23 front 25 rear psi 20180619_124047.jpg

I’m curious to hear what y’all think. I switched from a 2.3 Spec Ground Control to a 2.5 DHF on the front of my Tallboy. Straight line downhill braking grip, and stability through sand are definitely better, but turns at higher speeds also feel squirrelly. My rims are 19mm internal which is pretty narrow. I run 23+ psi usually. I’m running a 2.3 DHF in back and it does feel slow.

Was it squirrely in the front or the rear? Tire pressure is super subjective. Around my trails I run 22-23 Front and 24-26 Rear and I weigh between 180-190 before riding gear. Basically you just have to play around with it to find a place you like.

A good baseline for non plus tires is ~ 26psi front and rear and adjust from there. But you're going to have to experiment to find what works best for you

I'm #190 rider weight running 19-20 front and 23 rear. Tires are 2.5 DHF front & 2.4 High Roller II rear. PSI is usually based on rider weight & type of trail. Typically I'll run higher for rocky terrain and lower for smoother or loose trails. I'd try dropping a few in the front to see if it hooks up better

It seemed to be mostly squirelly in the rear. Almsot as if traction breaks or is slipping. Turn in wasn't was fast but I attributed that to the wider tires. But they tended to break traction in the turn which I thought was weird ( I was also using a lot less brakes). When I rode through the ONE spot of the trail that was a down hill turn with lots of loose rock I biffed it, but I did the same with the stock tires also. My ride weight is about 180 with gear.
