    First post...

What's up Taco owners! Hope everyone are well! I signed-up hoping to hear some advices, suggestions and feedbacks on Toyota's famous truck, the Tacoma.

I currently drive an Audi that I leased and it's going to end in January, 2019. I want a truck now and I've been searching mainly for pre-owned Tacomas. It will be my main vehicle for everyday grind, weekends and road trips. I don't see myself off-roading anytime soon but I see the benefits of having one just in case. I know there's a huge gap in price between a V6 with 4x4 and inline 4 with 4x2. Any 4x2 4 cylinder Tacoma owners wished they opted for the 4x4 with V6?

    Thanks.

    Robert

    Welcome!

4x4 V6 here and I’m very happy with it. No experience with the 4 cylinder.

There is. But you missed the 4x4 4 cyl. and the v6 4x2, which are options as well.

A 4x2 4cyl is going to be what's called a '5 lug'. It's what I have. You see them a lot in the service vehicle world. Lawns, pools, municipalities, etc. But underneath they are a whole 'nuther truck. No suspension interchange with the 6 lugs.

I'm sure there are some who wish they had a 4x4 or a v6 4x4. But I'm not one of them. I knew what would serve my purposes, and that's what I shopped for and bought.

If you live in snow country, 4x4 can certainly be useful. And it also means you really need to inspect frames on used models closely for rust. Serious, as in ruin your truck rust.

    Good luck shopping!

Hey man if you want a truck either get the 4 cylinder with 4x4, or get the V6 with 4x4– otherwise you'll be sorry. 4x4 is what makes it a truck imo. Unless you live in SoCal or Florida

Clearly you know little about Florida.

    Thanks for the tips!!!

I live in SoCal near the beach and I rarely go to the mountains. Maybe having a 4x4 will re-calibrate my mind and explore more. I'm currently doing some research on pre-owned units and I quickly found out how the prices didn't fall as much as compared to other cars. They do hold their resale value. I'm impressed!

    I’ve had both 2.7 4cyl 4x4 and 4.0 v6 4x4

I really like the v6 over the 4cyl it’s fine I guess for city driving and off road it’s still pretty great but it suffers on the highway the power just isn’t there

The V6 isn’t that great in the city off road it’s a beast and on the highway it sails it has the power for when you need it

Get a 4x4 at a minimum no matter where you live. And if you plan to spend time on this site, make sure you have plenty of money left over for the lenghty list of mods you’ll want to do. The TW addiction is real. Good luck.

When in doubt, 4x4!!! I'm already liking it! Crawl control or not? I know it's like extra insurance but I don't see myself going to deep sand, mud or snow.

    Thank you!

Crawl control is only available in the 3rd gens and I haven't really read up on it. You mentioned pre-owned and I automatically assumed 2nd gen. But 2nd gen vs. 3rd gen is a whole other debate. Do some thorough independent research on a late 2nd gen (2013-15) versus a newer 3rd gen (2017-18) and make a decision you can live with.

Thanks for the tip!!! A late 2nd gen will work for me and don't need to pay extra for crawl control. Besides, thanks to Tred Pro, right? I think I am settled on a 4x4, V6 and crew cab (I have small family). I will start searching one in the market.
