Correct - Just radio to radio no repeater, so all you need to do is tune the radio to that specific frequency, no need to really adjust anything else or program it in... just punch the numbers in and talk.

Ham gets a bit more confusing once you add in repeaters as they typically have a different input and output frequency and a tone to open up the repeater to allow it to accept the signal, its easiest to do all this on the computer and then just transfer it all into the radio.

    Jesus Christ.

What zip you in. We can look up some local repeaters for you.

Hoping tomoroto to get down to ham radio outlet I. Salem NH. Everyone has suggested it so far. We will see if I leave with a new radio

    Just got mine today. KC1JXQ
    Uv-5r reppin!
Seriously. Can't wait to use this so that way if I fall in a river in the middle of no where, my family knows where to send the party.
CQ is more of a HF DXing bit. While not wrong from who people I've talked to, most say just toss out your call signs and wait a few seconds to see if it's clear. If anyone's monitoring it or using it they'll get back to you

Yea thats what I would do to- just call out your call sign, you can ask if anyone else is out there. I have heard CQ calls on 146.520 before though - I think technically its the "proper" thing to do, just like saying your call sign every 10 minutes.

For anyone looking for repeaters - www.repeaterbook.com has em all lister and searchable, as well as exportable. But.... not most all of these.. actually many of them may not be very active.

Muffins are clutch when camping. We might whip up some chocolate chip zucchini muffins if we have time
