Took the 255/75r17s off and threw some 285/70r17s on. The 255s just looked a tad to small. To bad nitto doesn’t make the trail grapplers in a 255/80!

285s on top 255s on bottom, hard to tell in pics but in person there is a huge difference. Enough that the wife noticed

Alright, I've lurked this thread for a bit. I'm trying to see how a set of skinnys would look on a truck similar to mine. A lot of the trucks i've seen on here with skinnys have lift. Does anyone have a photo of their truck with 235/85/16 on stock suspension on a 3rd gen? In a perfect world it would be on an SR5 DCLB but I mainly just want to see how they look and how it fills the wheel well. Thanks :)

I just bought a set of Icon Rebounds 17x8.5, 0 offset with 4.75 backspace. i would like to run Cooper St Maxx tires with stock suspension.

I dont understand the wheel and tire calculator, so i am hoping someone can help a brother out. my choices are 255/80r17 or 275/70r17. coopers website says the 255's can go on wheels up to 8.5" wide, but someone said that would be pushing it in terms of width. The 275's look like theres clearance on the calculator, but again,im not sure if im looking at it correctly. i will have the CMC done prior to the wheel and tire install if that makes a difference.

I appreciate your help and knowledge in advance.

You probably meant to type 275/70/17. They don’t make a 275/75/17.

Either tire will work on that wheel. Some folks may caution you as to not air down a ton if you decide on the skinny 255s with an 8.5” wide wheel(275 are not skinny’s). In the past I’ve run 255s STMaxx on an 8.5” wide wheel with zero issues.

A CMC and probably some plastic trimming will be mandatory for either of those tire sizes and that wheel specs on stock suspension if you expect to cycle the suspension at all....or turn.

Yes, i meant the 275/70 and corrected it, thank you.

out of the two...which would you go with? i plan on doing suspension, but not for a few months, and my off roading will be regulated to the beach, nothing crazy.

100% personal preference. I'm partial to the skinnier look. Hell, there are times I feel my current 265s look too marshmellowy on my current wheels.

IMHO the 275s will probably 'look' more proportional on the wider wheel as they are almost an inch wider than the 255. Granted the 255 is almost an inch taller than the 275, so it can be a trade off. Last I looked the 255s were a little cheaper than 275s so that may or may not be a contributing factor to your decision.

The fitment is more important to me than the price, id rather go with something that doesnt rub at all or requires minimal chopping, if that makes sense.

I'm running 255/75/17 on Ray10s 8.5 wide. I feel that as long as going by the tire manufacturer spec. you should be good. As others have said watch air pressure if lowering down. As for looks I think it would look better if the rim was 7.5.
Good luck with what ever you choose and post pictures.

I could be wrong, but I’ve always felt like wider requires more trimming/chopping.

Here are a few re-post pics of my old truck with 255/80/17 STMaxx on 17x8.5 wheels. Hopefully the diff angles will give you an idea of what the setup might look like for you.

Looks like March of 2019 will be the release date for the KM3 in 255/85/16. Checked with my local shop this morning. Can't wait on the release! :mudding:
