Even die hard Tacoma fans can not argue that the 2016s and even 17s had their fair share of issues, including recalls. Fortunately, nothing too major for most folks. Hopefully Toyota has improved quality for 2018s.

" biggest reduction in complaints coming in exterior design, infotainment systems and seats."

    Worthless survey.
People bitch about the smallest thing these days. A howl from a hole gets a complaint.

Quality is still the same. We just turfed Smitty99 from TW so the issues don’t appear so catesprophic anymore.

My wife had a Nissan pathfinder. The transmission fluid runs through the radiator. It ended up getting cross contaminated and destroyed the transmission. I know the my Tacoma has some issues but none that has cost $4500.

As I go through the class winners, I agree with none of them, except maybe one or two. JDP has no credibility with me.

Here is the full list of class winners:

    Midsize car: Nissan Altima

    Midsize Sporty Car: Ford Mustang

    Minivan: Dodge Grand Caravan

    Midsize premium Car: Lincoln Continental

    Large Car: Nissan Maxima

    Large Premium Car: Genesis G90

    Small SUV: Hyundai Tucson

Small Premium SUV: (tie) BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA

    Compact SUV: Buick Envision

    Compact Premium SUV: Lincoln MKC

    Midsize SUV: Kia Sorento

    Midsize Premium SUV: BMW X6

    Midsize Pickup: Nissan Frontier

    Large SUV: Ford Expedition

Large Light Duty Pickup: Chevrolet Silverado

Large Heavy Duty Pickup: (tie) Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ford Super Duty

JD Power is NOT impartial. They're paid for their surveys by the automaker, and are also paid for automakers to show their awards in ads. Even their dependability surveys only go for the first 3 years of life, which explains how an Audi could ever win.

Consumer Reports on the other had is totally impartial. That being said the Tacoma's results are kind of ugly this year...

wasn't agreeing with JD's report, just starting conversation, but I have no qualms about my truck at all, love it, although next one may be the tundra or 4Runner for more interior space, that's all..

I had an '05 Frontier. At 100,000 miles this is one of the several problems I got. I ended up spending over $7000 by 105000 miles. I finally dumped it for a Tacoma.

I will say, though, aside from reliability, Kia/Hyundai crossovers have come a long way and frankly, I like them better than the Toyota/Honda counterparts. We were looking at the Highlander/Pilot last year and were very underwhelmed.

I know you said an SUV, which no one has a proper BOF other than Toyota (Wrangler doesn't count), but 99.9% of the consumers are looking for nothing more than a crossover.

I've owned Nissans and Toyotas and from my experience Toyota wins hands down. Are they perfect? Of course not, but a much better and less costly ownership experience with Toyota.
