Next one has to be with an expo shower in a thong. With the runner on the lift getting an alignment.

Cleaned out my garage yesterday as well. It would be nice to fit more than MY truck in the garage and possibly help out another occupant of my dwelling in there too. We didn't get a hard hit last storm, but it was a lucky roll of the roulette wheel. The wife was appreciative that she can squeeze the big old Expedition under some cover if/WHEN the next storm comes.

Nice to show that I'm not being selfish and only thinking about me (my truck, my motorcycle are always in the garage while the other 3 drivers in the house have to suck it up)...wife brownie points acquired.

I'm not sure you understand how this works. Sure, your individual premium isn't going to go up because you file a claim, but overall premiums have increased a *lot* in the past few years because of hail damage. They've changed the way things work as well. All those new roofs? In the past homes had a single deductible and now it's far more common to have split deductibles, meaning you've got one for most things like fires and another for your roof or hail damage. This is particularly true of multifamily structures (condos, townhomes) where roof replacements have been multi-million dollar claims. Everybody's insurance goes up when we have storm series like this. And when there are enough of them, they just stop covering you/the area.

Huh. I've only ever filed claims with Allstate, but my agent's office handled everything. Even though I still have the same agent out of Lakewood from when I first moved here despite relocating to the northlands. Makes State Farm people sound even more like just sales agents and not insurance agents (I've gotten mailers from six different agents over a few days because they all share the same corporate mailing list program).

The RR is in the area that will stay closed due to the active fire area. Not all of the forest is reopening, just the area that got the needed moisture to bring it back to a stage 2 fire restriction and no close wild fires. Still means no burning.

Oh, I get that. I know that my rates have gone up. They always go up. They were going up before we had this shit streak of hail storms. Insurance companies aren't in the business of writing checks. I still remember being able to make my house payment, getting about $100/month raise, and the very next month my insurance went up $1000/year. I ended up getting essentially a net $0 raise that year. And didn't make a claim until 2 years ago when COS got destroyed then.

My old roof went to a "cash value", and we fought them tooth and nail to the fact that they changed my policy and notified me that they changed the policy, but that they changed it without my consent, and they ended up writing the check for the whole roof (with the help of the roofing contractor), instead of cash value (which wasn't shit). Changed companies after the final inspection and all checks written to contractor. They surely have us by the "short & curlies", but we are not completely at their mercy. If your company is ramming it up your ass (which they seem to do more often than not), shop for a new insurance company.

Where are the insurance companies not covering homes? Are Floridians not covered for hurricanes? Can you not get home insurance in CA? Is that why they are all moving here? When people say "they will rebuild again", how are they rebuilding? I want to work for the people that can eat a $*00,000 house and start over from scratch.

When I was in the military I did A-School in the Redneck Riviera (Pensacola). I vowed from that moment on to never visit the south during the summer or even at all if I could avoid it.

Use to wake up for PT at 4am, walk outside, and it felt like someone instantly just dropped a bucket of sweat on you.

To this day I still don't understand how people willing live in that humidity.

They've stopped all service through at least the end of the month, and may resume limited service with a diesel engine only after that as the fire allows. The steam engines may not run the rest of the year, just depends on fire danger. It's my understanding that one of those engines is actually what caused the fire in the first place.

Some companies won't insure a home in the 'forest urban interface zone', or require a separate rider from a different company. Most flood insurance is federal, not private. It's really no different than auto insurance. A company can refuse to insure your home and drop you if you get too many expensive claims. Like you said, insurance companies are for-profit entities. They're all about taking in more money than they pay out, so if they have to pay out a lot they're going to jack rates up to bring more in.

Many of those people who say they're going to rebuild actually don't. Especially the total losses. They find out what it's going to cost even if they have insurance, how long it's going to take, and look at the (barren) land post-fire, and just end up selling it or maybe keeping the land but relocating to live elsewhere.

My first duty station was Fort Polk, LA. I made the same vow back then but my current employer had other plans.
