The dealership fills them to 35 because they're not the ones replacing the tires early when the center treads are worn prematurely.

I'm wondering if the 18s have this button? I looked and couldn't find the dang thing. I did drop to 30 and didn't get any lights however. I just wanted to know for future reference.

I believe 50 psi is a C rated tire. P rated is 35-44 depending on what it is. Stock Firestone Le have a 44 psi limit cold.

I'm also pretty sure the car mfg sets PSI recommendations, hence the ford explorer debacle of the 90's. They set a pressure not within safe recommended levels by the tire mfg

I thought that was firestone specific. I believe they work with the tire manufacturer for the OEM tires only.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestone_and_Ford_tire_controversy

EDIT: Oh you are right, Ford lowered the pressure which caused the tires to heat

I know mine is a 17 but maybe it would be in the same spot.

WTF, no. When I had my first set of Load E tires put on, the tire shop inflated them to around 55-60 psi. My truck road TERRIBLE. Pretty much how I imagine a dump truck would ride. They now stay 35 front and 40 rear and ride way better and have even wear.

They will ride terrible because technically a E rated tire is overkill for a Taco but to meet load requirements the tire must be inflated to 55-60. That is directly from the tire manufacture.

It’s not about tire wear or ride comfort it’s about load reqs.

Yeah, go drive around with E rated tires and 55 psi and let me know how you like it.

E is definitely overkill for a stock taco, but it's necessary when wheeling to protect from punctures.

When I bought my 2015 new, the drive home from the dealership was absolutely awful, after I got home I checked the tires and they were well over 50 psi.

I can confirm it's in the same spot. When someone explained it's under the steering wheel, I just assumed it was on the steering column. Thanks for the visual!

Check your door jamb if you don't believe me. All the places you mentioned fill to 35 because nobody is going to be able memorize every vehicles pressure. Once you start swapping out sizes, then things change. 35 is a great psi for all those places to fill because I'm guessing it's higher than most recommended PSI specs and underfilling isn't safe or economical. Higher psi than needed will wear out a tire faster.

What's the tread look like? Any uneven wear? Rotate frequently using rearward cross pattern?

unless you live in Greenland that's probably overkill. Snow tires will wear quickly in temps consistently above ~45°, where I live it's generally Halloween through St Patty's or Easter.

Colorado here. Got a foot of snow randomly in May last year.

Tread looks fine and they are rotated at maintenance time and also when the snow tires came off. Since they just rotated them when the snow tires came off I asked the dealer not to rotate them again. In any case, I don't think it's tread or rotation.

Lower pressure may have helped the squealing some but maybe I just didn't hit the right corners. We'll see going forward.

HOWEVER the steering still SUCKS. On good roads it's fine. However, it rained yesterday so I drove home on wet roads. One road has a lot tar-filled cracks and as I drove over these the truck was pulled left and right and the steering was very "bouncy". Seriously unfun to drive when it does that. I have no idea why wet tar strips on the road would pull (or push) the wheels around but sure seems like that's what caused it. I never noticed this with the snow tires - even on the same road when wet. Don't recall it being an issue last year either with the stock tires (stock are currently on again).

The alignment was done at the dealer with some fancy machine. They gave me the readout with everything looking perfect. Maybe it could be something in the alignment still. I guess I need to find time to take it back. However, assuming the alignment was done right, and I have no reason to think otherwise, what they hell could be going on? I probably should have taken a video. If I have a chance I will next time.

If you still have the alignment sheet, post it up. It sounds like your caster is low with how it jitters around.
