We rarely, if ever, have our welds checked. I've only been inspected once and the cwi and super flipped out when they found out I wasn't certified. Got my ass chewed for welding even though they gave me the hot work permit without asking if I was certified but was then told they were really good welds. Never understood why though. If a weld were to fail on a critical part of a door or piece of dock equipment some one could be hurt/killed.
And I'm pretty sure he makes more than both of us. The guy is damn good at fixing doors, they just need to keep him away from the docks and the welder. If your gonna trash another man's welding, you better be able to lays a bead better than him. I don't claim to be a great welder but they sure as hell don't like anywhere near as bad as his.

I know nothing about welding, but those sure do look like welds!

I've always wanted to learn to weld.

Hang around some fabricators for a few years, and learn through osmosis. Then cut critical parts off your truck, disableing it in the garage 6months before a cross country wheeling trip, buy welder on Amazon, build and leave 1 day late without testing at all. That's the patented slander welding course.

It's really not that hard to learn.

Damn, that was risky as hell. Glad it worked. Haha. I still wanna sas mine after seeing yours at aop.

Get a good wire feed and some scrap metal I've heard they are lot easier to learn on. Only time I ever used one was a cheap harbor freight welder. All I did was burn holes and fucked my buddies new exaust up. I've only ever used a stick. Spent a year reading articles and forums, watching YouTube vids and welding every chance I got at work, and was still welding like shit. Then i saw a couple lead techs lay perfect beads and asked them to teach me. They spent the next week standing over me watching me weld. Anytime I did something wrong, I had to grind away my fuck up, and start again. I was ready to strangle them by Friday. I don't suggest learning this way. But I had the hang of it and knew where i was going wrong. Still ain't perfect but better than 90% of the door men I run into.

Wouldn't call it bad "mouthing" but i did have the pic attached to work order and explained the "problem" in a professional way. From what the customer told me, there was plenty badmouthing when he called my boss to complain.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Doing the weld is easy part. Figuring out machine settings in the first place is what still gets me. I keep plenty of scraps to test on before welding my real parts.

It amazes me that people like this aren't fired more often. The amount of crap people can get way with is absurd. I always feel like I need to do my best at my job or it's my ass. Then I see shit like this and I think jeeze, I'm probably fine.

Left front wheel pointed in rather odd direction. Probably a $8000 to $10000 estimate to bring it back to reality. Probably $3500 just to get it drivable.

    Nope, No, No way....

But as a trail rig... SAS, cut fenders, tube bed and doors... it would be perfect

    When
When I worked at Nashville fireplace I actually got fired for being hard to work with. Most of the employees were on some kinda drug so they were usually too high to do the job right and always wanted to cut corrners. Hell, one of them actually caused a new million dollar home to burn down because he didn't install the flew pipe correctly. Lucky no one was hurt or worse, killed. But I'm sure that lawsuit cost the company a shit ton of money. Do fire the guy? No. They fire the guy that bitches at the rest of them to do the job right. I'll never understand how some people get away with shit.
