I'm considering either an AAL kit or DAKARs in order to slightly lift and soften my rear ride quality.

Currently, I believe the SUMO's may be engaging with frame a little early.

If I run a taller leaf pack and a stock shock will it push the sumo spring closer into the frame of the truck and stiffen the suspension even more?

Green is sumo making contact with the frame in current config.

Red is what I'm afraid will happen with even more leafs in the pack.

Added leaves go on the bottom of the pack, so you're not pushing the bumpstop up. Dakars would have some additional arch to them and make the bump stop sit a little further from the frame.

AAL and Dakars will both more than likely require a longer shock. Dakars for sure.

Understood. Guess I should start shopping around for some rear shocks as well.

I recommend just biting the bullet and doing a full leaf pack. Dakars, b110 bilstein 5100s and extended brakes lines is a great option. I have the full OME kit which i like a lot and would also recommend.

If I just go with a longer shock, that'll give me a slight lift right? Enough to keep from hitting the SUMO's right away? Do I risk bottoming anything out by going with a longer shock without AAL?

No. Shocks give you no lift on the rear. If you get extended shocks (and brake lines) you can get extra droop though!

And you will 100% bottom out and blow out your nice new shocks if they are longer than stock on stock suspension. That's only logical.

Buy a set of Dakars and some matching front lift and be happy.

I am very aware that shocks do not provide lift. What i meant is he’ll need longer shocks to pair with the dakars to support the added height

As with anything, buy once, cry once. Do it right the first time. You'll thank us later.

Thats why I always appreciate the honest feedback. For now, I've chopped the SUMO's down so they don't contact so early. Stock suspension is loosey goosey again.

It'll do for now as I save up for the real deal. Thanks!

If I go with the Dakars and shocks is the Sumo no longer needed? I'm looking to order my suspension upgrade within the next two weeks and want to have everything I need.

You don’t need sumos but you can also still use them as a bump stop too with the new leaf pack. Or do something like the wheelers superbumps or timbren bumps instead

I already had them from before when I was worried about payload capacity and wearing my springs out. It rides a little to stiff in the rear for daily driving though. I've got superbumps in the front and definitely dig em. The cut down SUMO's kinda work the same.
