I guess I should expect some bashing but I can assure you it’s not a joke, there were some great points made here and things learned. Not everyone on a forum is a mechanical guru...I may not be good with engines but give me a schematic and I’ll hack or rig anything without fear. I’m an automation engineer with an EE and CS background. Show me a factory that needs automation from A-Z and I’ll have a robotic system designed, wired and programmed to do what you need it to do. Come to my home and all you need to control or do anything is your phone...if it can be done.

I did warn you guys I’m not a combustion engineer!

Your first mistake was letting your truck get used to the good shit. You gotta keep these trucks disciplined, no spoiling them! It's like letting a dog sleep on the bed - once they start you ain't ever gonna stop them

(seriously wtf is even happening in here)

...and a friend of mine drives around looking for used cooking oil to put in his old Mercedes TD. Must be nice. I’ll try that with my diesel Tacoma sometime (if and when I can get one).

I've heard that's not good with current common rail electronic diesels. I used to have a MB 220D, I put some soy oil in it once, ran kinda weird when it was cold.

Don't forget the "I put moto-mix gas in my tank (on purpose), and now it doesn't run" guy.

Friend had to run 100LL avgas in his 4runner to get out of a pinch once. Purred like a kitten!

I wish I could run 87 in my Tacoma but being its supercharged I've gotta run 91 octane

My other car , I only run this !!! And at $245 per 15 gal drum it gets expensive !!

Only can get 91 octane here in Socal

We do have a couple E85 Stations which would be 105-110 octane but I would have to modify the fuel system in the Tacoma

Lots of them don't even now! Go look under the hood of a new 3-series BMW or a recent Audi, for example. No dipstick to be found. They've got oil-level sensors instead.

Oh, they have dipsticks...they just occupy the passenger compartment now.

Just a reminder that leaded gas will destroy oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, as a warning to anybody trying to use it daily. But how much does it take to damage them, who the heck knows.
Avgas still works absolutely fine in lawnmowers, etc, and when it evaporates I have NEVER seen it deposit even one bit of varnish. Never clogs a carburetor or leaves rancid gas in a tank. (It will foul spark plugs if run rich, and will leave gray lead deposits in the oil pans and oil. Some claim it also lubricate valves and some aircraft cylinder manufacturers require some usage, but who knows about that for sure...)

Yeah, not something you'd want to do regularly, just for the cost alone!

    SLC Airport rates:

    85 Octane : $3.08/Gal
    100LL: $6.60/Gal

Ouch. Pay thru the nose at big FBOs in Florida, but can get it (relatively) cheap at self serve stations if you pick and choose. Fill up a hundred gallons or so at a time at $3.80/gal the last time I did it. (Really isn't too much more than ethanol free boat fuel in our area, can't get that any cheaper than about $3.30/gal.)

Research 91 octane means the toyota company used 91 octane when figuring out hp..torque..fuel economy etc..so if you want to get the same specs thats listed on the window sticker and manual then 91 octane...if you dont care 87 will do just fine
