Exhaust Reroute

Not following... Did you create an exhaust leak?? If so, your reply is wayyy off topic.

Its not stainless- its “aluminized” steel. You can also tell by the color of the rest of your pipes, stainless doesnt get oxidized like that in the photo. Looks like a good reroute job though.

 

Some stainless is magnetic.

 

The color on the stock exhaust is red dirt not metal, that crap is baked on and doesnt want to come off. Even if I move away from Tx, I'm pretty sure i will find red dirt falling off my truck for the rest of its life.

 

I had 2 nuts spot welded onto the pipe to mount a heat shield onto it with short bolts, I also used aluminum flashing to make a heat shield “box” that surrounds the actuator and extended the stock “baking tin” heat shield directly over the pipe with it under the floor. Used stainless zip ties to attach it. If you do this, curve the sides of the aluminum heat shield downward so it does not hold dirt or gravel on it:

By unbolting and removing from the y-pipe back.

The part that hangs down IS the y pipe. If you unbolted that, you’d be running straight headers.

 

Removal is not the same as Reroute. I'm happy to have paid to make room for my skids and not change the sound of the truck. I dont need to make a few HP or increase sound in my slow AF truck thats just getting slower.

 

So my goal, as many of you guys, is to get the stupid crossover higher so there is no contact with skids and my truck does not sound like it's falling apart at when stopped in gear. Why do most of you move the pipe higher and further? This would leave it more exposed, as the skid would not protect it anymore, getting you another place to get hung up on, no? I think I only saw one guy that had it lifted just enough as to not contact the skids, keeping the cross over still protected by the tranny skid. And please don't tell me it's for performance reasons...

 

It’s a non issue. With it sitting high than the frame rails, you’d have to hit a very specific rock to mess it up. And if you did, chances are very high that you have messed other stuff up, like a drive shaft. Exhaust would be the least of your worries.

 

Not sure what you mean, the typical reroute shown here is significantly higher putting it up at the same height as the actuator box. The only way to hit that is to be high centered on a bolder, and you’d be stuck good on it as EatSleepTacos points out.

 

Yeah, I just like to have as much protected as possible from the jagged rocks here in AZ. I have had a rock that has rotated under me come up through the floor pan before on a jeep I had. And since the current crossover is protected by a skit, why not just lift it a bit and leave it there...

 

It cant be tucked higher because of the transfercase. The transfercase skid actually covers a lot.

 

Ive hit my crossover several times, so it had to go. The mobtown skids more than protect it as well. If you do get hit there, you are not getting out because you would be boxed in, all sides of the truck are lower than a rerouted pipe- the rocker panels, rear differential and the transmission are all lower.

Yeah, I know anout rocks in the desert, we have them too. I used to drive offroad rally style with an old beater BMW 1600 I used to have, and one time bottomed out on a rock so bad my friend’s feet got pinned under the drivers’ seat. I jumped on the floor to push it back out.
