You know, looking at the pictures above I think that hole saw idea would work great if you could get one a hair larger or smaller than the stud. There's more stud sticking out than I thought from the previous pictures.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with a ridiculous number/amount of weights on one side of the tire to balance it out. o_O

Yeah, he just needs about 1/4" of stud to work with. Hold the drill with both hands while kneeling, and rest his head against the fender so he has complete control of the drill. Start out really slow with some oil, and let the saw scratch a groove into the nut shoulder. Increase speed slightly to make progress, checking it often. Stop just before breaking through and just pick the remaining thin material away with a pick.

I read the first few pages so dismiss if this has been talked about.

    1. Heat is your friend and aluminum will expand faster then steel.

    2. If drilling, don't get a spring punch, for precision work they suck, get a standard punch and prick.

    3. Get a center drill/drill countersink, like this
    https://www.google.com/search?q=cen...hUBmVkKHZXgBE4Q_AUIEigC&biw=360&bih=512&dpr=4

    4. After center drill use a 3/16 or 1/4 drill and step up from there.

    5. Use the low setting on your drill once you get your first pilot hole drilled.

The center drill is interesting. I've used a countersink bit for woodworking but never thought about something like this that would keep you on center while drilling in metal.

Yep, they're used in machining all the time, but work well in hand drills also.

@johntoyota So, do you have a plan for being able to drive tomorrow once you get the one spacer off and still have three on the truck? Are you going to drive it all wonky (technical term there) or is it Uber FTW tomorrow, too?

No, he said he tried an impact to no avail. Then broke them off with a breaker. He did use an impact to tighten them.
