Buying an Ebay grille for $90 (probably cheaper now) and cutting a square piece off of the license plate bracket to cover the radar. It saves you the $50-60 that the OEM garnish costs and avoids using the shiny, flat OEM garnish because it throws off the honeycomb look of the grille. I used a piece of kydex plastic I had instead of the license plate bracket.

Gotcha...does the grille come with these parts or do we re-use from the OEM?

    You'll need to re-use those.

I’m thinking about covering my shiny garnish with some Matte Xpel. It will match the grill better, and I’m sure make the bugs easier to come off

So it's the consensus to buy an eBay grille and an OEM garbisg?

I bought the ebay grille, but didn’t have the tabs for the OEM garnish and ended up getting the OEM grille.

I never ordered the garnish, and have a $100 Pro grille. It alarmed a couple times then has always worked. If you get a lot of codes the dealership can do a recalibration where the truck is level and it includes the radar. Mine was done for a different reason and has been great.

Talked with a Toyota tech yesterday about re-calibrating the TSS radar system. If you changed out your grill and or moved the location of the front radar in any direction it must be re-calibrated. It is quite the procedure using mirrors and adjusting it with the forward facing camera behind the rear view mirror. Takes about 3 hours. Tilting the sensor will not work, it must remain level! If you have done this your system will not work correctly in a crash. You may not be getting all the errors but it still needs re-calibrated.

My dealer charged $275 to recalibrate mine after my lift was done.

For those that bought the Faux Pro grill from eBay that has the screw on logo piece, you may notice that the supplied screws bottoms out before the logo piece is snug (see video). I fixed it by adding some thick nylon washers from the local hardware store.

I call bullshit on this. I have been driving in Atlanta traffic and into North GA with adaptive cruise and received no errors and proper functionality. I have no doubts the dealer would tell you this but there is no way Toyota would make it that complicated. Three hours my ass...they may bill you for that but you better believe they have a plug somewhere reads it in under a minute.

My guess is they put up a big cardboard cutout of a person, tape tin foil all over it and drive the truck towards it until it alarms (adjust the angle of the radar until it works). :D

Hi everyone, just want to make sure I understand this. I have a 2018 TRD and want to put the TRD pro grill. Will the 2017 Pro grill with the 2018 garnish work with no errors?
Pics please of the set up!

I had the same issues as @cruiserhead. Tried kydex and the license plate holder glued to the honey comb piece on the china grill. Neither variation worked so just went ahead and bought the OEM garnish and picked up 2 1/4" push nuts from ace hardware. Fit perfect and had no errors, also the sensor alerted me to brake at one point too

Yup. I picked up my '18 TRD OR this past Saturday and they tried to sell me a PRO grille for an extra charge along with a bunch of other stuff.
