I had a cheap ebay one, even so it still seemed sturdy.

I sure did. 6 holes, im not to worried about water. Drilled holes , touch up paint. Let it dry, then caulked the holes, placed bracket on top. Inserted all rivets then started riveting. So with caulking and touch up paint. And likey you said the rivets themselves against the sheet metal are probably water tigt on there own. Using the bracket attached i can shake the truck with it, its well mounted.
Wanted to follow aev install and make sure its done proper

ya its a better way to mount just no going back. I was concerned if I drilled and ever wanted to go back I couldn't really replace that like you can a fender.
I can grab mine and shake the whole truck, that 3M tape is fucking strong dude.

I painted all the holes that I did drill. I'm also thinking of removing the fender liner again and then spraying the inside with some sort of leak guard type rubberized paint thing. Same shit they say you can spray on leaking eavestrough or roofs to stop the leaks. Although I painted I'm still worried it will rust.

How does the AEV connect to the airbox?
I've heard concern from those with the airflow safari or whatever its called that its not a good seal and you need to use plumbers putty because its just hard plastic and a soft plastic that you squeeze together to join. The ARB is whole snorkel is a hard plastic and then it connects to the factory airbox with a rubber elbow that has hose clamps to go around it.
I certainly prefer how small the AEV ones are that its only a small area that you see the snorkel the rest is hidden within the fender.

Well in Minden I had my whole 33 under water

They can be done relatively stock but not sure it's a good idea.

@Norilsk will tell you differently but he believes if you aren't breaking stuff and having a hard time you aren't wheeling.

I did Minden last year stock and it took 6 hours to go 1/3 in and back out vs 5.5 hours to do whole thing in and out but my truck has changed a lot since last year

Depending on the trail, the one we do are intermediate and require skids and sliders.

30s pass fine aired down to 12-15PSI, might rub belly and pumpkin a bit more, but with a proper line you won't touch anything.

To those who want to meet, but don't want to take on trails where skids and sliders required, there is Ganaraska forest in Campbellcroft.

We could plan something for mid of July there, it's corolla friendly with a bunch of dirt, but still fun to wonder around.

I did Minden stock with 265s last year and it took 6 hours because you were checking every rock here and there, while me and Peter were blasting trhu.

Once I get TuRD BRO snorkel, I'll be swimming lakes...

I agree, just 6 small holes to patch. If your doing the fender its not much more work to fill and sand them, use a little touch up paint, trucks paint is already ducked so.

I didn’t even think of the 3m. I have some decent stuff and its crazy how strong it holds. Certainly could’ve gone that way.

Same for the rust, hate the idea of holes. I’ll be going over the big hole a bunch of times.

Yeah i agree with that. The end of the snorkel plugs into the stock airbox, airbox is a rubber gromer and is tight but no hose clamps so ive kind of questioned that part also.

It is “air” tight snorkel which makes me believe if air cant get in, water cant. How did they test that though? But in all serious, if water is at the top of the airbox or over the hood theres other issues.
I got it for extra insurance, real cold air intake instead of a $500 afe hot air, looks, AEV and the always important expo points.
Now to find money for the AEV wheels. $1490 for 4, sell a kidney soon

What is air tight and what is water tight aren't the same.

I've seen what's supposed to be an air tight fixture fill with water lol.
Take a water bottle turn the cap a bit off it will start to drip but you won't be able to crush it at the same level of open when empty because it's still air tight.

And anyone with a relatively stock truck and first time going off will be the same lol

It's definitely not a trail for first time and the water crossings there can be scary.

And you weren't stock you had lift, tires, skids, and had already taken truck off plus you enjoy breaking lol. Most others don't.
