OBA -> On Board Air Mega Thread & BS

appreciate it. I purchased lockers and was lucky enough to get the twin compressor for free instead of the single. So thats when the idea of having a tank and going full OBA was decided.

I have been piecing together everything and trying to figure it out based on everything here since all i got was the compressor, and solenoids for the lockers. So lots of figuring out. I will start with the check valve and go from the there. Rule out the dumbest/easiest/known problems first before spending more money on fittings and what not (those begin to add up haha)

 

No doubt, I'll bet I spent $100 on fittings alone.

Good luck man, the best thing you got going for you is easy access to everything. If my system would have leaked, it would have been a huge pain to remove everything to chase it down.

 

Yeah thats why when I found the $100 kit with all the fittings, and air line I was pumped. Hopefully it wasn't a waste and this is just an easy fix with a check valve.
Thanks, one goal I had for my "electrical wall" was to have easy access in case something needed to be fixed/replaced on the road...

Thanks may need it. I’m sure this is just as bad as tracking down a short in a electrical system.

 

I'm essentially done with my install besides wiring up my ARB compressor. I'll only use it to air up tires, so I didn't do a tank, although I may in the future if I have issues.

I used the slee 2nd gen mount with the adapter made by a member here, then used a 1/4" JIC line to a bracket I made to hold an ARB quick disconnect and 1/4" JIC to 1/4" NPT bulkhead fitting. I'll have to open the hood every time I want to air up, but I didn't really want to drill into my ARB bumper, so it's not a huge deal. The quick disconnect has a couple inches of clearance with the hood, although you can't really tell from the pictures.

 

I should probably throw my beginning info of my install here; I'll eventually do a better write-up in my build thread but for now enjoy.

Good luck, haha. Unless you have a high flow compressor, or compressors, that big tank is more of a burden when filling tires. The only reason I opted for the tank is for my water setup.

 

It is the viair heavy duty I believe it is a 100% duty cycle compressor and can fill up to 37’s I believe

 

That should be the 450C and it is 100% duty cycle, but it's only 1.8 cfm. I opted for the 400C because it's rated for 2.6 cfm, however only 33% duty cycle. The duty cycle has yet to be an issue for me, but if you're filling up multiple vehicles it could be. I'm not saying what you have won't work, it absolutely will, but just be aware it's going to be slow after the first tire. At that point you'll be pressurizing your larger tank and tires simultaneously.

 

Speaking of compressors, I've yet to see anyone try these. The stats look really good, but of course money.

The magnum unit draws less amps, but same flow as the ARB twin.

 

I had a 450c and man that thing was slow. Added a second 450c and the ARB twin guys were still airing up faster than me. Now I have a Zenith and I finish just as fast, if not faster (when I cheat and fill up the tank right before we hit pavement)

Gonna order this for an OBA system. Thinking about relocating my battery to the bed (two batteries) and mounting this under the hood. What else should I be ordering while I'm at it? Not planning to run an air tank as they seem pretty useless.

Reading through thread now but thought I'd go ahead and ask my questions.

I need to run a 4 foot hose in the engine bay to my quick connect. I want something that will last a long time.
I would prefer 1/4 npt female on both ends. The closest I have found is this from Viair.

Is a stainless hose necessary? Any recommendations?

Also, whats the cheapest way to protect an exposed ARB quick connect coupling? I'm not paying $20 for a "binky".

 

You need reinforced braided hose for the first 18-24" from the compressor because 1, the hose will get too hot at the coupling and possibly fail, and 2, the stainless braid helps conduct heat away and gives it more surface area to convect.
