Ill be heading back to Wichita KS. Ha like 9 days might be enough for me. I originally took leave from work the 6th-17th but maybe I’ll be able to switch to the 13th-24th and maybe meet up on my way back from Moab? Just message me where you which day and I’ll see if I should try and make it work!

Be aware, there are a lot of closures in the San Juans right now due to fires and fire hazard. By a lot of closures, I mean the SJNF is closed. North of Silverton is GMUGNF, which is still accessible. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/sanjuan/home/?cid=stelprdb5423363

If you are in Ouray area, Orvis Hot Springs is my favorite place to stay. All natural springs with little tent sites or cabins. It's not off the beaten path at all, but it's usually pretty quiet and the hot springs are some of the best in CO. I stayed there every time I went through Ouray. Usually just threw a tent down somewhere nearby, because I didn't want to pay for a site.

And if hot springs interest you, there are a few more great places to go in CO!

FYI, they're reopening the forest, but still going to be under Stage 2 restrictions, and I'm assuming the areas closed for the individual fires will still be closed.

Virtually all the San Juans are open (as of 3pm today) save for Scotch Creek and Bolam Pass which are in the fire suppression area.

drove the jeep to krow [IMG]

It drives about as well as you can hope for a 20-something year old jeep on 37s [IMG]

Need a front alignment or something, the front tires kind of wobble and it results in audible tire noise on really grippy pavement. Seems like the 1-2-3 syncros are toast too, you have to hit the perfect rpm to get minimal grinding while shifting lol

Check and see if the steering stabilizer is in good shape/tightened all the way.

pretty sure it doesn't have one at all, but that is a good thought. I can stick my head out and see the tires going ever so slightly alternating from toe-in to to out kind of like this

Yea thats pretty common on lifted Jeeps. Sounds like you have really slight "Death wobble". I'd check where the track bar mounts to the frame as well. Everytime I have seen this it is either a steering stab issue or a loose track bar bolt.

Track bar? this ain't no yuppie jeep! :luvya:

Yeah, I guess I didn't even think that it could be the issue. It happens from 5-60mph but doesn't seem to get any more severe at speed.

I'll have to poke around a bit more. The springs/bushings are new, the steering is new, so it could be the ball joints or lack of stabilizer, but they looked pretty good at a glance...

Whats goin on guys! Az member here popping in to say hello and to see if there are any pointers or tips/secrets for my Wife and I's Anniversary Trip during the week of 4th of July into Colorado. We are hitting Moab the 30th and 1st of July, then to Aspen area the 2nd and camp. From there we plan to head to Lake City area and camp on the 3rd. The 4th we will head to Ouray via Cinnamon Pass to Animas Forks, and into Ouray to spend our Anniversary.. camping or might get a room and freshen up, have dinner, etc. On the 5th, we will head to Telluride via Imogene and camp in Telluride. From Telluride to Silverton on the 6th via Ophir Pass and camp in/near Silverton. We'll leave Silverton on the 7th and head to Monument Valley and camp there. The 8th we'll head home to Phx. Should be around ~1600 miles round trip.

I checked Fire Restrictions, and like Az, I see its Stage 2 almost everywhere, and that San Juan just re-opened today! thank you rain! Thats ok, since its too hot anyways, and I know the risks being in Az and have no problem abiding rules. I reached out to the forest service to see about anything I missed and just to double check closures, get info on passes, etc. I wanted to see if you guys had any info to pass along as well.

thanks in advance.. maybe we'll see you guys around! TW Meet for Beer and Food in any of those listed areas!? Cant wait to go on this amazing trip and see your beautiful backyard in all its glory.

    .
    Caster.
On that lifted Scout (also running 37's) I had to cut and turn the inner "C"s 15 degrees on the end of the axle tubes.
ended up with about 5-6 degrees of caster and 9-10 degrees of increased upward pinion angle to straighten out the front driveshaft. Worked out pretty sweet, could easily pilot it at 75 with one hand and drink coffee.

You could also try maybe a 2 degree shim on the front but be aware of the effect it will have on the pinion. If your driveshaft is steep already, it may bind at full droop. Not to mention the vibration, but a double cardan will solve that.

There may still be offset ball joints available as well, they will help with the alignment.
The ball joint itself is not offset but the threaded sleeve is offset and can be turned to move things a bit.

Imogene Pass isn't "cleared yet" but usually is by the 4th, no clue how that is going with the area being closed this month.
