Going to try it this morning with this guy. Wanted a 1/2” but this is all I can find. It may scar the neck a little but I’m hoping for the best.

I bet that'll work real good if you can get the guide bit out of the center :sawzall:

Preliminary report: this is the way to do it. The stud I had not touched is done after 15 minutes. If I had used this technique from the start I’d be driving down the road with the wind whipping through my beard by now.

I’ll dig up your name in a bit, but to the guy that suggested this, I need to send you a case of beer now and another for Christmas.

I’ll update more when I’m done.

@INSAYN your technique seems to have worked! I'll have to keep this in mind if I ever run into this situation (hoping I don't!).

The problem I’m running into now is the ones I had already started. The untouched one used the stud as a bit guide to hold it in place. It rode straight down the stud.

The ones where I already mangled the studs are a different story.

I have been thinking about this poor fellow's dilemma--I would get a hole saw with an ID just slightly larger, or the same as the lug stud's OD, then run the holesaw down to cut between the stud and the remaining portion of the nut. It won't be an easy task--ue plenty of cutting fluid-- and itwill ruin the stud, but they are replaceable--the wheels should come off with no damage...

Ok. I have done all I can do with a drill bit. Three should be totally good. The other three are as good as I can get them.

I had my neighbor come out and sit in the seat and turn the wheel back and forth as I watched for play. Nothing. I had her pull forward about 2-3’ as I watched for play. Nothing. She was too scared to do a solid job.

Is ANYONE near the Littleton area that could come give me a hand here at the end? It’s going to have to be driven (yes, in the driveway) while someone watches and I am here by myself.

    Thanks all.

It was I that made the suggestion several times for the hole saw. I'm glad it worked as planned. Too bad you have a few "studless" ones to deal with now.

Hold off attempting to drive off and break the other studs, as you will probably goober up the wheel in the process. No need for that!

The one with the broken drill bit will be the bitch one.
As for the others that have the studs mostly drilled out. If your new hole saw has a place for a pilot bit, you might try getting getting a hole started in what remains of any stud that is the same size or smaller than the pilot bit (usually close to 1/4"). Get as close to centered as possible. Then use the pilot bit to carefully drill the stud and eventually the hole saw will find traction on the broken nut. Once you are there, pack the rim with cardboard around the hole saw to assist in keeping everything centered as you chew away at the nut.

Back to the one with the broken drill bit. Not a lot can be done to drill a drill shy of a diamond tipped grinder. If you have that, use that.

A day late and a dollar short with his awesome suggestion.
But a least it wasn't another suggestion to heat it up cherry red and beat it silly.
