I'm fine with the go pro mount. I'm not fine with the stupid advertising in an otherwise clean interior.

Just curious. Does the offroading you do exceed the capability of your new TRD OR, or did you just go all "Bro-Cool" and now you're screwed??

    Just asking.

In Virginia it's a ticket-able offense to have a cracked windshield and driving the vehicle. Defective equipment. They don't care that it takes a few days to get it fixed either, even if you show them you have a standing appointment to get it done. Got the t-shirt of the day for that!

Was sitting in traffic next to a Virginia State Trooper on I-66. Next thing I know I'm getting pulled over. Licence and registration please. Do you know why I pulled you over. Nope. Cracked windshield was the reply. I had my wife's Montero SUV Full Size. It's not made anymore, but had a windshield like a Jeep and caught rocks all the time. I even had the confirmation from Safelite for the appointment on my phone. Didn't care, not supposed to be driving with defective equipment. Went to court. Showed them I had the appointment prior to the ticket and that I had gotten it fixed as per the appointment. They dismissed the ticket but had to pay court costs. Was told it was defective equipment and should have known. Now who reads the fine print? Biggest goat rope ever!

Back to the OP post. Yes, when you lift the 18" due to the TSS sensors in the glass the lifts are presenting issues. Apparently it's trowing off the sensors. How? Virginia State safety inspection stickers have been moved to the drivers left corner of the glass too starting back on January 1. Biggest eyesore ever now! VSP claim the inspection stickers are interfering with the sensors. I think it only makes the stickers easier to see for ticketing purposes. I have senors in my 18 Grand Cherokee from 14-18, not a single issue. My Lexus LX570 has sensors on the glass. My Mercedes has more senors than anyone can count it it works fine!

On my LX570, Safelite used all OEM glass. It's all branded with Lexus logo's unless Safelite has gotten into the logo business too? Windshield and all the glass on the passenger side. No argument what so ever from USAA. Safelite makes there own glass, which is pure crap BTW!

    Not for me it isn't.

Costs me $19 every 6 months for my 2011 Tacoma and $31 every 6 months for my 2017 Civic

That's cheap zero deductible comprehensive coverage imo. That covers glass, etc.

Just went through this on my '18 also with lane departure. Got a chip on the 10 after dropping off friends at Sky Harbor. I thought initially could just get it a chip repair and deal with it later. Came back from lunch and the chip became a 2 foot crack. Called a few windshield replacement shops and some were quoting $250 or so. That kinda indicated to me they didn't know what they were really dealing with - so I went to a dealer and their recommended glass repair shop. Initially was going to be a 2 week wait for glass to be available - but got called after a couple days of wait. Not sure of total cost of replacement as I stopped paying attention when total cost went over my $500 comprehensive deductible, but I know Toyota charged at least 4 hours of labor to realign the camera.

I don't know if I would trust Safelite to calibrate the sensors. They can't even lay the damn glass correctly, replace the molding and goodness knows where they would point the sensor!!

Dont the 3rd gens have an acoustic film laminated into the glass? Could be reason for more than typical replacement cost?
Also these windshields seem like they shatter way too easily. Mine is F ed.

I lived in Phoenix for 20 years, that place is brutal on windshields and front end paint, I went through 3-4 windshields a year.

Got to remember that all these new "safety features" increase the cost of the vehicle, insurance and the cost of replacement parts. Modifications do require recalibration. Mine is a '17 without those features....my wife's '18 Highlander Limited Platinum has all those "bells and whistles" and work great. Of course the Highlander is not for Off Roading.....

I believe they do, they're also fairly thin for a truck windshield.

These new features are to save your (or someone elses) life. I have them on my Honda and they have probably saved me from an accident a time or two, but then you probably are so good a driver, that you dont need them nanny %#$ items. Am I correct? I have a 14 Tacoma and would not even consider getting a new one until Toyota had those features, and now they do and I am looking for a new one again. All vehicles are suppose to have the new safety features by some point in time, that is why they are coming standard on more and more cars and trucks. The bad thing is that these features can be turned off. I just took a trip with a friend who has a Highlander with the safety features, he tailgates and since he turned the feature off, no alarms. He also like too do searches on his cell phone while driving and wanders allover the toad while doing it, but since the lane departure is turned off, no alarms. i like all the help I can get when driving, so I want all the bells and whistles. I like living and they help me live.

I would say that 90% of Tacos sold do not go off-roading, so good for them to have the life saving features, IF ONLY people would not cut them off. I had a wreck in 2012 that was my fault. Someone asked me, "How did you do that?" I replied: "You have never had a wreck, have you?" He said, NO. I said, to him, "I thought so, if you had had one, you would not have asked that question!" No one intends to have a wreck, but they happen. A blink of your eyes and you can have a wreck.

Damn dude. Thanks. I just had an "oh ya!" moment. I've been agonizing over taking the hit getting it done through the dealer to "stay stock".

I just realized I don't give a crap. Screw that stupid thing in its dumb proprietary clip arse. $100 deductable knock-off replacement?
    Yes please.

Everyone loves all the dumb safety shit. My grandparents got a new Altima with the safety stuff. More of a annoyance with beeping when the computer didn't realize it was morning and whatnot. Might be good for people that drive shitty and help keep THEM from hitting other people. Sadly, some asshole rear ended them at a stop light. Safety bullshit doesn't stop people from stoving in your rear end. Kinda funny thinking about how it might stop your car, but that dude behind you better stop too!

:rofl::rofl: Seat belts help you live (I have fortunetly seen this and unfortunately the other end too many times), paying attention helps you live, staying off your phone helps you live. Your car will NOT get out of the way of another distracted wrong way driver, but a driver paying attention will.
