Well that is up to you/your budget. They have clean cut offs but they are among the lowest output and have a thinner beam than some of the more expensive alternatives. If you really want amber, I'd recommend the KC G4 in amber as that uses a true amber light source peaking at 580nm which is the transition point from yellow to amber while also providing double the illuminated area.

i dont think they will work in my 2010 tacoma as website says 12-16

 

This may be a basic question but how do the covers on say the Rigid SAE Fog Pods affect the light output? I saw in @ChadsPride photo the clear covers and was curious how these or the amber covers would affect the lumen/lux or wavelengths.

 

Amber is going to do better in extreme rain/snow/fog/dust penetration but white is going to be more generally useful for illumination. If going with amber, I'd suggest a true amber light source like the KC G4 in amber vs a filtering lens which reduces effective output, though amber light sources are going to likely be lower output than their white counterparts.

Clear lenses should have very minimal effect. Amber lenses will depend on the light source, but any color filter lens is going to filter out light and reduce output. How much depends on how much of the spectrum is being filtered compared to the light source. If you look at the Rigids, they have a very high amplitude of short wavelength light in relation to their longer yellow/amber spectrum (spectrometer graph shown in the thread). Filtering out blue light will will have a larger effect on output with a light source that is relying more on short wavelength light for its total intensity than a light source that relies on longer wavelength light for total intensity.

My bad, I didn't notice you had a 2010. I believe Morimoto is coming out with an amber version soon, which should then fit your 2010 Tacoma. Alternatively you could get some Rigids and put the amber light covers over them. While covers do filter and reduce output, the Rigids are at the highest output in the pack and the Morimotos are at the bottom performing part of the pack, so the Rigids have output to spare and would very likely still out perform the Morimotos while also provide 2x the illumination area coverage.

 

i know about the amber version. TRS said no for amber for the tacoma. pretty dissapointed

 

i had yellow led fogs and i liked em. they just glared A LOTTTTTTTTT. but i love how the xb morimoto looks installed.
my friend is getting the baja design but i dont need crazy amount of light like that.
was thinking bout getting the 1800 lunen ones. but would they be too bright to drive like at night and stuff bc i tend to use my foglights while driving at night.
or are they strictly for offroad use only. i think they make brighter ones which are off road only?

Glare is typically due to the beam pattern or using an improper light source for the housing.

All of Baja's lights are off road only or for high beam use, they do not make any streetable lights. It is not because how bright they are, it is due to beam pattern with lack of cut off as demonstrated in the beginning of the post. The model shown in the original post is the 1800 raw lumen model, which is blinding to oncoming traffic and not ideal for fog, that model has now been replaced by a 2260 raw lumen model. For cut offs you need to look at fogs/pods with SAE J583 compliance, which is what is covered in this thread.

If you want maximum output then Rigid SAE pods are the way to go.

I think outback lights are larger than the 4" G4s, so even if you could make it work that might look funny. There is a universal mount G4 that uses C shaped carrier bracket similar to a pod which allows for mounting directly above or directly below the light assembly.

But you might have messed up my plans of using the Baja amber wide cornering fogs for my 3rd gen. They look awesome but don't want to blind oncoming traffic as I commute a lot. Hhhmm the dilemma

The amber KC G4s have a peak color spectrum at 580nm, which is the transition point from amber to yellow, which seems like a fairly ideal color for the purpose of poor weather visibility.

I have Baja Squadrons with combos used as driving lights.. wouldn't trade them for anything.
