I did something a little differently and has nothing to do with the BHLM. I added a projector to each headlight.

 

Can this be done on an 03, if so what bulbs would work

And guys this is easier than it looks and sounds, just have a watchful eye when using the oven and pay attention to details

 

I am not sure about 1st gens and just use your stock bulbs... Unless you are referring to the projector.

They are gen 3 projectors. I believe they are available on ebay now.

i attempted to do mine, couldnt pry it open for some reason. that was a good enough sign for me to just cancel out, didnt want to make anything worse.

I hear ya on that. I gave up too. However, I tried it again and this time I turned up the temp a little bit higher and I left the lights 2 minutes longer and it came out fine. It was still stubborn but easier to pry open. All is good and done now and I am very pleased with the outcome.

 

what temp did you set it at? and you had them in there for 12mins?
i still dont know if i can trust myself in doing it again.

 

I put mine to 325 degrees and I left it in there for 12 minutes. However, on the last minute, I cracked the oven door open, but the lights were still in there till the timer went off. I'm not that excited leaving headlights in an oven either. Some people have done 350 for 8 minutes. I guess it all depends on how stubborn that glue is, but this way worked for me. You won't mess it up. Good Luck Dude.

 

Thank you for this detailed write up; I got lucky and bought a pair of 06 headlights of off CL for $60.00 tried the BHLM last night on one of the headlights and found that it was suprisingly easy, thanks to your write up.... and heres how mine came out, just hoping that I reseal this thing fairly well; again AWSOME write up

Glad to see you all are able to do this mod! I am not sure why it's hard for you guys to crack it open. The key is to start on the bottom inner corner (corner closest to the bumper and grille. And then work your way up towards the hood, and halfway along the bottom. And then I just use pressure to pull them apart, which does not require a lot.

Also, I have found a new technique, some may prefer doing this. Instead of putting the rubber butyl in the channels before putting the halves together, put it on AFTER you have heated the halves together. You will use about 30% less rubber butyl and cane save it. Just run a bead around the headlight, and press it into the cracks. This is MUCH easier than silicon that takes forever to dry.

 

nice job... looks great!! Hey can you maybe direct me as to where I could get directions on how to remove the front bumper, I finished the other headlight. Now I have remove my current headlights to put these in; but I can't get this bumper off; can you help a noob out please.

 

you dont need to remove the bumper to get to your head lights. the last bolt in the bottom can be reached from your wheel well. undo the screws near the bumper and look up and youll see two vertical bolts. its the highest one up.
