Ok, so now that we established that everyone prefers different things and that OVTune is the best... Does anyone know if the 'custom tune' form will be capable of changing the shift points, similar to how SSP does, to avoid my automatic being in 5th gear at 40mph?

Whoa! Dude my truck did that for the first time this morning. Highly doubtful the tune has anything to do with it... super weird

I’m at the part in the tune where you first connect to the truck.. Do I need to disconnect the negative battery terminal? Thanks in advance.

Huh? There’s no disconnecting the battery involved at any point in the flashing process.

The ECU needs accessory/battery power to complete the flash. For example if you had a weak battery it can make the flash fail as well (it will normally eventually flash though if you keep trying).

You'd have a pretty hard time connecting to the truck if you disconnect the battery. Don't forget the 1 hour idle time after you flash too. JK
Just read the instructions and follow them to a T, don't add anything or skip any part and it'll work perfectly

He sends the stock tune with it. You get 3 tunes

    87 octane
    91 octane
    Stock

Do not run any gas lower than 91 octane if you choose to run the 91 tune. Seriously

These posts making fun of disconnecting the battery need to be edited to say they are only joking ! Though they are funny to the seasoned vets , someone may actually do it or let the truck idle for 1 hour . Either way this can be a VERY scary process for people that are not good with computers guys .

Guessing the custom tunes will be a way away still. Even once it starts, I feel like it’s going to be a very long wait.

100% false, not a waste of money at all. Have you used the 2 together?

I’m with you @Turd Hawg. I can’t stand the thing chugging around at 35mph in 5th gear.

Another completely false statement. The tune absolutely does not negate the effects of the SSP. If anything, SSP makes the auto Tacoma work even better.

I recently reinstalled the SSP since removing it while running OVT for the past 5,000 miles or so. I can’t believe I waited this long to put it back in. I’m part of the group who hates that the $800 tune still makes the Tacoma lug around town in 5th gear when it shouldn’t. SSP keeps the transmission in the proper gear to utilize the usable power the 3.5L makes. Ever since reinstalling the SSP while running 1.04, it feels much better since RPMs are up enough to actually accelerate withough having to downshift instantly 1 or 2 gears.

Obviously there are many of you who only want the best MPG possible, but some of us really don’t care. If I wanted gas mileage I would have bought a hybrid.

I’d still pay money for someone who can figure out how to control downshifts just like we can control upshifts.

.....That's why i put JK after my comment and also said follow the instructions to a T, don't skip or ADD anything. Instructions don't say to disconnect battery and says 10 min idle

Replace the battery in your remote. I bet this fixes it. Had the same issue in the wife's Kia Soul and that was the problem.

You get what you pay for, without a doubt. The price is comparable to other platforms' tunes for software and hardware. Some are even more expensive
