Okay before I ask I know that body lifts are frowned upon. However I wanted to see what the best one is out there. Does anyone have one installed on their 1st gen Tacoma? What are the pros and cons?

Daystar seems to crop up a lot. They are sold at 2 of the places I trust for off-road stuff: Low Range Offroad and Wheelers...

Just don't go more than 1"...

@jbrandt Hey thanks man. I have seen you reply to me several times about not going above 1". Would you explain why it would be bad to go above 1"? Also Still looking for people who have body lifts installed on their 1st gen's

Because you are putting a LOT of torsional stress on the body mounts. When the body/frame mounts are close together (no lift), you have a nearly vertical load, however, when you space that out, say 3", now you give the body mount the ability to twist because of all teh added leverage.

This is obviously an extreme example but all I could find with a quick google... but look at the "body mounts" under the front door. With a tall body lift, instead of a shear force against the bolts, it's now a rotational (bending) force, where the mounts can bend over.

Gotcha. Higher center of gravity more body roll. Makes sense. Hmm I wonder if anyone on here as a 3" body lift and how much body roll they get. And the pic is priceless haha :D

It also can cause reach issues with anything that connects from what’s on the frame to the lifted body. E.g. electric connections, manual stick shift, gas filler, etc.

Well yeah the body will roll around corners because of a higher center of gravity, but that's not really what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the mount itself, and how it can twist and bend the mounting bolts over:

    Here's a crappy drawing:

Imagine a force applied (red arrow), and what can happen the longer that body mount is.

Yes, and the bumper too. From what I've seen, 1" lifts don't usually come with alignment brackets for the bumper (IMO, they should), but bigger ones would look *really* stupid with the bumpers hanging 3" below the body.

@jbrandt yeah I got that, but even with a 3" lift if i'm not rock climbing how much force could be I putting on them?

In a panic stop? A lot.

I'm not sure how much force it would actually take, but it's not something I'm willing to find out, either.

@Sperrunner inspired me to do a little searching on the 4crawler kit.

    http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/ToyotaTacoma.shtml

But just because people sell a 3" body lift, doesn't make them a good idea.

But I ain't your mom, so you do you, just remember you asked for advice and received it. You know the cons as they've been talked about. As for the pros, well, I'm not really sure I'm qualified to talk about the pros of a 3" body lift.

I doubt your gonna find anyone on here with more than a 1" body lift. Leave the 3" kits to the silverado owners...

Don't kid yourself. There are some real Bros that drive Tacos.

As @Sperrunner can attest to, there are some real creative ways people try to lift their trucks, like suspension ideas from low riders...
