What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I did not, it’s been that high as long as I can remember for idle.

 

Dang I don’t think it should be that high. The highest I’ve seen mine at is 9-10 at idle

 

That’s for the excessive play and wandering...

 

Did you use OEM replacements? Type? Cost?

while waiting for the compressor to recharge to cut thru the bolts on the O2 sensor, decided to undertake this folly to recover the springs. not buying the “its not that dangerous with the right tools” lines. this is the borrow a tool from the local auto shop.

chime in anything you might see that could kill me!

is that a comment that even the springs arent worth saving? having second thoughts on my $150 set of rear shocks AND front springs/shocks (strut).

 

@BartMaster1234 what was the part number and price for those diff tube bolts again?

This is for the short E-Torx bolts.

 

They look like stock progressive TRD springs. If they have very many miles on them at all, they are not worth reusing. Plus they've had that spacer pre-compressing them for how long?.

Which strut were you going to put them on?

What a day. I don’t know if anyone seen my post of me wanting a higher alternator today. I still had warranty on my old one so I got new one. Then I was talking to a friend of mine he said for me to get the battery tested so I did, turned out it was bad so got my self a battery..

 

That's them exactly... at least 100k with the spacers (& I suspected similar as you wrote about the spacers).

Long story short... I'll likely eat the $150. The new springs had at least 1 winding less than the TRD progressives and I suspect they are not the same coil rod diameter and at least with the rear shocks there was only ~1" travel/extension left when sitting empty.

 

Installed (1) JBL door speaker today. I had to cut back the stock plastic speaker bracket a little to make it fit. I tried using the JBL supplied spacer before cutting, but a mock fit of the door panel revealed it wasn't happening. Still looks OEM with the door panel off. Even used the stock speaker pig tail so no wire cutting.

I would not buy the foam speaker baffles again if I knew they wouldn't fit. I tried fitting them, but said f-it it's just too tight.

 

What did I do to my first gen today? Nothing. I did however test drive a 3rd gen just to see.......

Nope! I don't like it. My 1st gen rocks man!

 

Yea, I did the same thing two years ago when we bought the wife a new 4-runner. That's when I decided I was going to put some money in my 1st gen and try to keep it going strong the rest of my life.
